Firearm Safe approval time

Hi everyone,

I contacted my police force about installing a safe at home as I currently store my rifles at my club armoury. It took them almost 4 months to give me a call to discuss the best location for the safe.
I was told that I could install it and then send photos to my FEO via WhatsApp, which I did. Two weeks and several missed calls later I am still waiting to get a favorable reply so I can take my rifles home.

Is this normal and should I be more patient or is there something else I can try to get an answer? Do they test our patience on purpose (like a test or something)? It seems to me their unofficial motto of "guns are a privilege and not a right" is used to embrace all the delays in the world that would be unacceptable in any other bureaucratic context....[rant over]

Just install it (according to the guidelines) and bring your rifles home, inform your FLD of their new storage location.

Some FLDs may operate to different policies but the two areas I’ve lived in don’t necessarily inspect new or moved cabinets.

Thank you, my FEO specified that she needed to authorise me before I took the rifles home (literally "but do not take them home until I tell you").

Strange, although it’s a recurring frustration that all different areas seem to make it up as they go along with often wildly different outcomes…….

Unless, of course, it specifically says on your FAC that they must only be stored at the club.

Unless there's something actually printed on your FAC that details where the firearms are to be stored, just move them.

Find a polite way of telling her she's talking out of her ar$e.
Your certificate says you must store them securely. It doesn't (usually...) say where.

That is because you started a process of asking for permission, when you needn't have. Put an FEO in a position of control and they'll use it.
You should have just notified them after the event.

Just whatsapp the pics again and tell her her on the same message, that unless she tells you that it isn't suitable, your guns are coming home next weekend.

This have been now sorted. My FEO apologised for the delay and was very helpful. So that is that at least.

I used to have an FEO in W....... Who used to come and see me. He could make a half bottle of amber liquid disappear into his pocket quicker than a fresh fcd rat. He had a name very similar to a well known playwright but he will be long gone now.
Also later had a village Bobby who would pick up your FAC from headquarters if you needed it in a hurry. Wonderful service in the past but at present still very good with Lincolnshire.

Ultimately the security of your firearms is your responsibility, not theirs, if you are happy the installation is robust and will stand up as taking reasonable precautions in court, crack on!
