Hi Guys

Im in the market for a full length sizing die/set for my 6mm Creedmoor. Im new to reloading so any Recommendations would be Greatly appreciated.. little confused as to why there is so many full length dies & such a range in cost 😵‍💫 TIA 👍

I personally would use a Redding S type full length sizing die, with an appropriately sized carbide bush and a carbide expander button upgrade. to get the bush size you need to measure the neck of a loaded round (made with your chosen brass and bullet) and subtract 0.002". I've had fantastic results with this arrangement in other calibres.

I would also upgrade the locking ring

For seating i would use a Wilson seating die in an arbor press, you can then feel if any of the bullets are harder than normal to seat, and either discard them or put them in the "hunting" box, and address the issue at the next reloading.

if you just want a basic set, the following will produce excellent quality ammunition as long as you set them up correctly and take care with case prep, trimming and lubrication.

you can pay more for deluxe/match die sets if you want bells and whistles, but i doubt you will see accuracy benefits - maybe save some time when developing your load and playing with seating depth.

I’d go for a Lee set which will give you good consistent loads at a relatively cheap price for the set. I may have a used set available if you choose to go that way. I also have the Redding Type S set which doesn’t give me any more accuracy despite being about 7 times the price!

in post #2 i meant to have posted the full length set, not the neck sizing set as the cheaper option.

Phew quick recovery there. 🤣

Hi Gary
Thanks for this do you have a link for the carbine bushings?
Cheers

just need to measure a loaded round to get the right size bushing. in theory you don't need the expander ball upgrade, but i've found it makes extremely accurate ammunition.

you might want to check what dies other people local to you are using, their ammunition seems to work ok

Looks like you get a carbide expander and micrometer seater for about £40 more than the standard die set, so effectively get the micrometer upgrade for free. the only thing you're not getting is a optimised bushing to minimise the amount of work done to the brass, you will do to it what the die does to it and that cant be changed. The expander will pull it back out to the correct internal diameter. I'm sure they would work fine and produce good quality ammo. I would still upgrade the locking ring to the clamp type, rather than the grub screw type.

and they come in a black box! that could cause some serious OCD issues for some reloaders
