Oakland Park Game open day

I would have liked to but family stuff on. Interested to hear how they think they can change the supply chain and afford to pay more for carcasses, assuming that's what they mean by "fair price".

Having been round it last month - it’s a very impressive building & set up - like an aircraft hangar.

Think it was mentioned that 200 deer a week could be processed - so essentially they will need the supply!

If I get the time I may nip up. If I start getting too many fallow this year I will not be able to butcher and sell so shifting carcasses could be a good thing. Be interesting to see if prices go up with the other local places.

You will need to get a ticket now for Saturday as they have had a huge responce. Had a tour the other week and yes very impressive. Wont just be deer but feathered game as well.

I spoke to someone yesterday and no ticket needed or booking in.

I guess you take your chance. I had a email to say its a ticket only event due to interest from them and now have a ticket just in case. Depending on who you are of course and who know, a ticket may not be needed!

A very nice set with easy access from the A34 and M4.
Its nice to see a game dealer offering a little for game birds again

Great day yesterday.
I was told that they can handle 200 per DAY in peak season. When they open next month it will be about 60 a day but I cannot guarantee that figure.

Did anyone get any info on what prices he will be paying?
£1.50/kg for clean chest shots. 50p/kg saddled and £2.50/kg for head shots - to my mind it seems like the market is about the same £1.50 as we already have up here and ours are collected - right enough an extra pound for the head shot stuff would be nice but overall doesn’t seem to be answering the questions people were saying it was going to.

That looks sensible. No ambiguity. Very clear distinction between different shot placements, which is good. And no doubt about whether you need "hunter ID" or not.
However, given their attention to detail, I'm a bit surprised that it doesn't draw attention to the fact that anyone supplying them will also need to be registered as a food business.

It also so happens that they've just established 3 deer parks on their estate. I wonder if they'll be quite so keen to buy in deer carcasses once their own parks are in full production?

Agreed. Not exactly a model that will help some of the two million wild carcasses that need a outlet 🤔 😏 Wish them all the best, but I dont think its going to be a game changer, perhaps locally? Prices very similar to the established game dealers and who also collect!

Shame to see prices for ‘Not clean shot’. It would be better if dealers would just reject these rather than take them but pay less.
