Folks, it fast approaches the time, when I will point the old Jalopy, North again.

Rough route is 51o up to 57o latitude (via Cumbria and North Yorkshire).

If anyone in the Home Counties area, has something they would like delivered (or collected), that they cannot otherwise manage, then I am happy to help if I can.

RVP this end, would be around Bisley on a date that suits.

As always:-

Nothing living (I would kill it)...

Nothing narcotic (I would smoke it)...

Nothing illegal, (I would have to arrest myself)...

Nothing that would requires a HGV (that would be taking the ****)...

Pah!.... 550miles, you could do that in say........ 9 or 10 hours.........

Unless of course you are in the Land Rover - then maybe you should have set off last Tuesday, but if you're in the boss's car - not a problem.

We set off for our much more manageable run of 300 miles next week to the far NW bit, can't wait!

@opticron1

When I was regularly up to Sutherland it was (no joke) 666 miles!

I used to do it in one hit in the Landrover, and it was about the 12 hours mark. Biblical.

Yep. Have leaned that if nothing else.

Mrs.S62's Volvo.

Leather seats. Auto-pilot and a radio you can actually hear...

NW Scotland - perhaps my favourite part of the UK mainland.

Have a great trip.

About to do similar journey for a week's stalking at the beginning of next month. Having accidentally "drilled" a hole in my dS' radiator on Sunday and the gearbox also not sounding too happy as well, I too am beginning to question my sanity in putting faith in Land Rover's. But hey ho, life would be boring without a little bit of adventure.............
To go a little off piste from @Stalker1962 's very kind offer of a courier service.....
I often think how nice it would be to travel to the great pestilence that is London and take the sleeper all the way to Inverness and be collected (along with all my gear) by the "staff" and deposited at the river bank and/or hill for the week - no worries about the speed cameras, breakdowns or any unforseen holdups..........but still a bit of an adventure!

I dream of such luxury................... :coat:

Certainly a memory if not an adventure 🤗

Funny thing.

I once "had' to travel up to Scotland on the 'Sleeper' for work (I got no sleep)...

Unknown-8.jpeg

The rest of the 'team' drove up (in the new Range Rovers).

When we got to Scotland , I then 'had' to go on the Jacobite Train, up to Mallaig.

If you have never done it, I urge you to do so. It was stunning.

Perhaps one of the nicest 'tours of duty', I ever did.

Work wasn't alway as enjoyable ...

Have you changed the gearbox oil recently? It's often overlooked but can make a huge difference.

Similar memories too of the lack of sleep travelling on the overnight sleeper up to join various JSATC adventures at Ballachulish, Ballater and somewhere I cannot remember near to Torridon - cold, damp and shunted into a noisy siding somewhere up North (Carstairs :-| ) arriving absolutely shattered. Orient Express it certainly wasn't!

One day, I'll do the Mallaig train, hopefully behind a steam loco 🤞

:thumb: Nope - it's all looking too complex. I took the old FL2 to a so-called transmission specialist in Bristol to have a power flush and replacement and they couldn't do it. Lying underneath this one on Sunday with the steel sump plate removed (very useful addition) its wall-to-wall in there. I will do some research asap as I got the the vehicle at 82k in January and I've now done 93.5k!

I’m about an inch and a half to the right(ish) of your destination - there is always an offer of a bed for the night, a few SD members have come and stayed in the wee apartment we have or camped here with tents - it’s an offer to any SD member for an FOC nights stay if they need it. 👍🏻

Well…it might cost them a beer sometime…🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m taking the sleeper to Fort William to kick off a week’s stalking at the end of the month.

My host asked if wanted to go out on the hill on the day of arrival… My only experience of the service so far was the “lowland” line to Edinburgh after which I was barely fit to walk to Princes Street, let alone put my boots on and make for the high ground so I’ve managed his expectations. It will certainly be an adventure though!

The Mallaig train ran past my house.
