.222 Velocity

Bit of history on the rifle.
It's a Tikka 595 with 25" 1 in 12 twist louther walther barrel.

I've loaded and worked up a load of 50gr V-MAX.
I'm at max recommended load of 22.1gr no pressure signs.
Just wondering if anyone has or is using the same load and what velocity you are getting ?

You know so long as you make the minimum required under deer legislation ( if that is on your quarry list ) just choose the most accurate load . All legal .22 cf quarry will fall over best by the accurate shot , upping the velocity can be a fools errand in such a cartridge, your better buying 243 up for those jobs.

I've got a load I've been using for a good few year's of 25gr of Varget with either 50 or 55gr speer soft point. There giving me 3150ft/sec.
50gr V-MAX with 22.1gr of N130 is giving me an average of 3424 ft/sec with no pressure signs.
The case are Sako with CCI br4 small primers.
Just curious about the velocity I'm getting.

It frankly is very likely to be going over pressure limits based just on the fact that your into that speed range . good brass has no doubt helped but brass degrades and batches change .

For me 3200 always seemed to be the magic spot in a deuce, 50gr flat base. I dont know if there are any advantage in going faster, you will probably find another good node lower down.

Don't worry about it.

If your 22.1gns is N120 you are indeed on Viht’s max for that powder. I shoot 50gns Vmax with 19gns of N120 - chronoed them last week out of the Remmy and averaged 3,150 fps - deadly accurate and great for foxes - out to 320yds so far.
The same charge with Sierra 55gns Gamekings will drop roe all day long.

I adopted Foxy’s load of 19 g x Vhit N120 only I’m using Berger 52 & 55 grain flat base bullets.
Great load.

I would have thought Varget was too slow for 222?
Ken.

Sako's old load map used 19.3grn of N120 for their 50grn bullet loadings, and 21.6grn of N130 for their 55grn loading.
Seeing as you're using Sako brass, this is probably why you haven't reached P-Max with a 50grn bullet, so far when using N130.
Foxy's 19grn of N120 isn't by itself a conservative load, but allows for a small margin of safety should you be using an alternative untested (by Sako) make of case.
