Ticks!!!

Some places I won’t take my dogs, they just come back just after one day smothered, Norfolk is rife, Surrey none, but I found an emaciated deceased badger on the ground it was overloaded with ticks, that was carted off for examination and it came back clear in every aspect, but the ground is overloaded with Rabbits as well as Roe and badgers, Ashdown forest on a small farm, never had one on the fallow there.

I've never seen 1 or had 1 or so I thought
Picking up meds tomorrow, doc treating me for Lyme

Got a lot of the bastards here.
A normal year i remove 40-50 ticks from myself. Bad years about double.
The lady seldom get them, maybe 1-2 a year, often years without bites at all.
We got 2 boys, the big one 11 years is like the lady, this means often no bites.
The small one is now 8 years and so far i removed around 20 from him, so they like him just as much i they like me.

Its the same story with moskitoes. Me and our little boy typical get 20-30 bites on one night of fishing, where the lady and big boy only get very few.

Main problem here is Borrelia, i had it once, and was luckt the pennicilin took it, but a lot of people get relly sick and treatment can take several years befor free from the disease.
Then we se more and more cases of TBE virus, but i got the little boy and myself vaccinated for that one.

If there is a god which day when he was building the earth did he think, “ Oh yea and we will need Ticks” I suspect same day he remembered to add Midge

I have been a stalker in SW England for many years and have often come back from a woodland summer stalk with over twenty ticks of various sizes and at various locations on my body that only my wife has seen ! I have to admit that i have, until recently, got somewhat complacent about ticks and just found them a nuisance to the extent of not trucking trousers into socks etc. And then last month on a Tuesday after i had shot a buck on the Saturday i sat in the car with my shorts on and spotted the edge of a rash under my thigh, pulling up the skin the extent of the rash grew. I dashed in house for a mirror and to my horror found the bullseye rash. Straight down surgery and picked up 3weeks worth of doxycycline the next day. Whilst in first week i had some Lyme symptoms of aches, pains and tiredness i am now nearly 2 months down the road and am feeling fine, having identified and acted on symptoms early.
On a related topic , I have two HWV's , one 11 years old and both have been on Bravecto for years with no side effects.

Not got many here but a mile away they are rife
Unfortunately big bucks from there come to us in the rut. They have loads of bracken and woodland we do not.

I read these posts with interest, I am going up to Perth on Friday for my annual visit. I have been going up for the last couple of years and every time I come home I bring a few ticks with me, I do seem to be a magnet for insects that bite , as a full time fencing contractor I have noticed this over the years . So my question is, apart from Rovince clothing (which I have bought for this visit) is there anything else I can do to stop these dirty little bar stewards from climbing on board

Helped a neighbour with a deer the other day, next day I picked 6 ticks off my arms and belly, all attached and sucking blood. There’s a lot of them! Usually, per annum, I have to remove probably close to 50 ticks that have attached. Been the same for the last ten years or so, but it’s getting worse.

Will be getting the vaccine against TBE soon.

been on antibiotics probably once or twice a year for bites looking like they could be lymes infected.

It’s not putting me off, but it’s not overly pleasant to deal with the little bloodsucking bastards

Spray everything with life systems permethrin?

Been stalking for about 10 years now.
Only ever had 1 tick before.

This weekend I've had 2.
One I found on my arm, and removed while I was sat in a low box

The other I found before getting in the shower this morning. Without being too specific, it was on a part of the anatomy that rhymes with tick......

I was not impressed 🤣

Yes really bad this year in aberfeldy Perthshire area dogs regularly come out of cover in forestry areas with 20 plus on them dogs are dosed so not many attach

I did a little test this year, I managed you find a few volunteers and gave them a light spray of household fly spray.
Checked on their health 2 hours later. Unfortunately they had passed away, I'm feeling guilty as as I never gave them a drink of water and some shade.
Handy to know the stuff works so always give the van and caravan a good spray down.
😉

Was out on Thursday last week and ended up picking 15 ticks off me. Crawling through some heather but nothing that bad. Seem to be constantly picking ticks off myself.🤬🤬
