Are there any Builders amongst us who can give me a little advice regarding some pointing please?

I will try get a photo put up. Bare with me though as technology is limited in my house, my phone is so old it does not even have a camera on it.

The bricks are a sand colour and the mortar is a similar match. It is not falling apart, but is ready for the work doing if that makes sense?
Alas the best time to do something (except buy a laptop computer or memory stocks...or as we on SD know, side by side shotguns) was always the day before yesterday as it was less costly then than it will be tomorrow. My advice get someone that knows what is what to assess how much life you still have left in what is there. And decide if this is a "forever home" or if you'll be moving on out before that time arrives.

Get it pointed. A decent chap who won't rob you. I'm guessing it would be slightly cheaper to get pointed. And it will last another 50years.
An Angle grinder and a mortar rake diamond blade, then a mortar mix with some ad mix to make it soft, put it in and a pointing gun to fire it in. Leave it a couple of hours to stiffen up and a bucket handle to finish. Done a few hundred sq meters and it's quick enough.

Hi.
It is the gable end that needs doing.
You might need a couple of upturned milk crates one on top of the other to do a bungalow gable then... I am only kidding but you know what I mean, beg steal or borrow a little tower, crack on over a couple of weekends and you will have the prep done, then get a decent bricky in to do the new pointing.

You can get mechanical pointing dun firm called gun point did a lot of houses for the council 15/17 year ago me daughter lives in one pointing still spot on

Hi. I am not kidding, i could not work on a scaffolding tower or any scaffolding for that matter. Acrophobia i think they call it.

I wish i knew a builder i could trust, at least i could ask him. There are so many incompetent people that talk the talk but actually know very little. Plenty are just crooks.

Any quality builders on here that are west yorks?

I often though that this site needs a list of skilled, honest and competent trademan we can access that are an older fac holder could at least start off on a level of trust.

A job I ran many moons ago required a large area of brick work repainting. We subbed the work out to a couple of chaps who only did pointing. They did a great job of raking out the old pointing and repointing. I was impressed by how much they did in a day

Ask ten builders you might get ten different solutions, some good some not so good. So, how do you find a good builder? Ring round the well established local guys and ask thier lead times. The guys that are booked up for18 months are almost certainly going to do the job right. Best of luck 👍
