6.5 PRC powder choices

Hi all

Now that the 6.5 PRC has been out a while, and I have a new rifle being built, what are other users finding best for powder selection. I've got all other components other than powder sorted for the calibre.

I would say Vhit powder and possibly RS powder seems to be more (he says with clenched teeth) readily available for me.

Plan is to use something around the 120gr mark in non lead, and up to say 147gr in lead bullets. I have some 130gr Sierra Gamechangers left over from my CM that I may use too.

Thanks in advance

Colin,

I would be contacting Richard @Yew Tree Fieldsports directly for the non-lead option. His 114TLR’ perform really well and he has always been extremely helpful when I have contacted him in the past with similar enquiries ☺️

Hi mate.
Yes I have some of his 6mm TLRs here for the 6mmXC.

I was considering some of his newer 6.5 bullets. Can't remember the name of them now.

RL is proving troublesome to get here
Appears to be everywhere unfortunately 🤦 I'm down to 1 1/2lbs so will have to find something new after. Hodgdon have released a couple of new powders which look about perfect if they are REACH compliant. One of the staball and the h1000 I think it is?

Or stick with viht and their massively under charged load data 😂

Yes that annoys me in regards to the load data.

End up wasting time and £ trying to get a load sorted if you follow their guide.

I find GRT gives a better guide

Yew Tree 114TLR and Vit N165. The load for my friends Bergara was developed by Richard who makes the bullets.

RS70 for the heavier bullets pal
Yes I've heard RS70 is good for that.
I could also use that in the XC 👍

I've got RS62 here currently being used in the XC, and N140 that I used in the 7mm-08, but I'll likely sell the N140 on.

RS76 is my go to powder for PRC. 70 will also work. 60 a touch fast other than for something like the 95gr VMax (or the new 100gr ELD-VT). If you're going light copper the 70 might be a good compromise.

In Viht - N568 is the equivalent - perhaps come back to N560 for the heavier bullets

That gives me a good mixture of powders.
I'll see what Ed has @Edinburgh Rifles
