Empty Humidor...

Well now. This is an unexpected opportunity.

I do not normally drink mid-week. This was too good an opportunity to miss. I had taped my favourite program, with a view to watching it on Sunday...but with a 'free' night, old Clive is out tonight.

One of the contestant's specialist knowledge is a favourite - Sherlock Homes.

I actually score one less point than the contestant.

I pour myself a decent slug of this 'punchy' little number (plenty of ice - it really, really, needs plenty of ice)...

And light up (what turns out to be), my very last cigar...

Apart for enjoying myself immensely for an hour or so (I started off by watching an episode of The Chase), I end up very cold, as I then have to open all the living room windows, to try and rid that smell of tobacco before my wife returns. I fail and subsequently endure my wife's 'passive aggressive' fury in the morning - but that is a matter for another day.

To the point.

I bought a box of 25 cigars; (it must be) about three or four years ago. I am not a 'real' smoker and so they have lasted fairly well. I think with sharing with friends - I have probably only smoked about ten of the damn things.

This morning I went online with a view to re-stocking.

Jesus. They are not cheap.

I do not smoke a cigar very often, but it is a real treat when I do. I should like to replenish the humidor.

Where do you get yours?

Get cheap washer flight to Geneva but from Gesto which is incredible. Takes me less time to fly there back and shop than it would to London.

The price of cigars in UK is eye watering.

Hoyo De Monterrey epicure no 2 or one of the Upman Magnums

These R&J No.3 were coming in at about £24 each!
Yes very expensive I brought 100 RJ back from Cyprus two years ago as it was all they had at the airport and even though they were ludicrously cheap by our standards they are absolutely not worth £24 a stick I’d put them at the low quality end of the spectrum think I have about 20 left hoping they mellow in the humidor over time but have zero expectation.

I was in Athens earlier in the year and got taxi to go to Cigar shop thinking they would be mega cheap. The RyJ Churchills I used to get in Munich few years ago for 8 Euros were £80 each!!!! Russian yacht influence apparently

I can recommend Oliva Series V Melanio Maduros (Robusto). Very nice if you like hints of chocolate and coffee.

Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro

Another is the Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne Robusto. A lighter flavor with the taste of walnuts and cream.

Like you, I don't have them often (rarely have an hour to just sit and enjoy one), but when I do, these are my two favorites (paired with a nice glass of cabernet or glass of single barrel bourbon)

ETA: Oh, and I find a 7mm hole punch to be the best for these two cigars; nice draw, with a lot of flavor released.

I did similar in Poland. It was cheaper to fly there, stay over and stock up than paying UK prices.

What’s the chances of your man Trump opening up the Cuban cigar trade?

Hmmm...I'd say more than likely. He was for normalizing relations with them in his last term, but dems and some GOP'ers made a big stink about it. Personally, I think we should just annex the place. The same with Baja Mexico; it's a peninsula, so annexing it would really tamp down on the drugs coming up through that corridor, since it would be fairly easy to secure.

Yes that would make sense. Fingers crossed for you.
