Empty Humidor...

What the hell do expectant fathers light up these days when the bairn arrives then?

On reflection, it's probably something a lot more pungently aromatic. And an awful lot cheaper than any Cuban cigar.

I can't see what the problem is . You just find out which one of your friends is going abroad , then just hound them mercilessly, day and night , until they bring cigars from the long list that you've given them . Most of them will be so relieved when you finally leave them alone , that they won't even accept payment for the cigars 👍.
Ps , whilst Cubans are by far my favourite, I'm becoming very keen on gurkha cigar sampler packs . I'm yet to find a bad one , and they're fantastic value for money.

How does that work with the tax? Do you get clobbered on import duties on the way in?
I have certainly been clobbered by HMRC importing 25 cigars from the US. The tax cost more than the cigars as I believe it is calculated by weight - the value of the cigar itself is irrelevant. Although I stand to be corrected.

"Can you look after yourself tonight? I am needed to babysit the grandchildren".

Well now. This is an unexpected opportunity.

I do not normally drink mid-week. This was too good an opportunity to miss. I had taped my favourite program, with a view to watching it on Sunday...but with a 'free' night, old Clive is out tonight.

One of the contestant's specialist knowledge is a favourite - Sherlock Homes.

I actually score one less point than the contestant.

I pour myself a decent slug of this 'punchy' little number (plenty of ice - it really, really, needs plenty of ice)...

And light up (what turns out to be), my very last cigar...

Apart for enjoying myself immensely for an hour or so (I started off by watching an episode of The Chase), I end up very cold, as I then have to open all the living room windows, to try and rid that smell of tobacco before my wife returns. I fail and subsequently endure my wife's 'passive aggressive' fury in the morning - but that is a matter for another day.

To the point.

I bought a box of 25 cigars; (it must be) about three or four years ago. I am not a 'real' smoker and so they have lasted fairly well. I think with sharing with friends - I have probably only smoked about ten of the damn things.

This morning I went online with a view to re-stocking.

Jesus. They are not cheap.

I do not smoke a cigar very often, but it is a real treat when I do. I should like to replenish the humidor.

Where do you get yours?
I do like a R&J short Churchill or a No2 for a shorter smoke. I randomly found out my local newsagents and Post Office sold cigars and had the short Churchills for £11 each, at which point I bought the rest of them for my humidor!

Try Ihavanas I believe they’re a Swiss company and I’ve used them once before, I couldn’t fault their prices although it has been a while and undoubtedly they will have increased.

Haven’t had a Cuban cigar for going on 16 years now.

Time to top up me thinks.

One of those Olivia ones should do the trick.

Probably because I

coincidentally exactly what i chose to smoke last night !

sadly my last one

Occasionally I’ll buy cigars from UK retailers as the choices are good. Most of mine come from overseas trips and duty free. Outside of the usual Cuban offerings, I really enjoyed Davidoff Robusto’s.

The cigar shop derby is a good way to spend an hour or so on a rainy day. Walk in humidor with a great choice of Cubans at varying prices. Also you get to sit in a leather chair surrounded by trophy’s from around the world. If there was ever an East Midlands SD meet up, that’s a good place

I'm not a smoker at all. Never have. But this place looks fantastic. I'd love to partake every now and again.

How did you find that malt- intrigued by it- I presume much like a laphroig? Thanks
@doric_prince

I really like it.

It does need a wee bit of ice/water to teach it some manners, but I really enjoy it. Not hugely expensive either, so worth a punt.

Caveat.

I also enjoy chilli sauce, sour sweets, full flavour beers, liquorish, hot curries and Welsh women - so pretty much the extreme end of the spectrum...

I remember when a R and J number 2 was £6 from a fantastic shop in Cheltenham!

My wife hates smoking but her sister is on board and visiting Budapest next week!

Myself and a couple of friends make a trip two or three times a year to either Amsterdam or Brussels to buy some cigars. Ryanair midweek is very affordable.
Cigaragua and Hajenius in Amsterdam are two great shops. Cigar art in Brussels is beside a very upmarket gun shop. Well worth a drool.
