No, you need to form from 17 or 221 fireball brass, or 222/223 rem if you dont mind a lot more work..

Maybe he was thinking of 20 Tactical? Dakota branded Lapua brass was available for that for a while.

None of the mainstream brass brands have made Vartarg, understandably as its so niche and basic to form from any Fireball brass that was readily available from Lapua, Nosler, Remington etc. Guess you may have been able to buy pre-formed stuff from somewhere, at some point, from someone. Perhaps Todd Kindler had something going at some point.

Assuming you don't have a tight neck chamber, forming from Fireball brass is a very basic matter, you just need to check your loaded round is less than about .230 thou, preferably .228-.229, otherwise you'll need to do at least a tidy up neck turn, depends what brass you start with. Starting from 222/223 to use Lapua brass is a much more involved process and will definitely involve neck turning.

Looks like you have plenty of fire formed brass anyway, so may as well just get and shoot it! Brass will probs last a fair while.

The bushing die is 227. But I've never used a bushing die as yet.

Yeh, thats about right for a 228/229 loaded round for a standard .232 reamer. But doesn't affect whether you'll have to neck turn when forming.

Yeh, I'd have done the same but sadly 221FB is "no longer in active production" as Lapua put it, can probably find some on the shelf but didnt seem much point with the alternatives. In hindsight I'd have formed from Lapua 223, but I'd already bought 400 17FB by the time I thought about it, so I'm necking up from 17FB. Tbh, assuming my Nosler brass lasts, I think necking up 17FB is one of the better options, as 17 already has the Vartarg shoulder angle. I'm AMP annealing after forming and between firings, so hopefully get good life.

Sadly. And yeh, just a touch up job on the necks to get a .228/.229 loaded round, could probably just about fire them without turning but Id rather clean them up anyway and have a bit of leeway as Im not a huge fan of cleaning!

The rifle prowler has just got actually was mine.steve Kershaw built me it a few years ago.easly the most accurate and easy rifle too shoot iv ever had.iv even got some of the original reloads I had for it in the cabinet .228 spot on.if I'd known it was for sale I think I would have tried too get it back
