Advice on mounting a rear Monopod (Trollstick from Salamander tactical)

Hi All,

Has anyone any advice on how to mount a Trollstick rear monopod from Salamander tactical.

There is very little info on the website, I took a chance on it as I was ordering a new spartan Valhalla and adaptor, but I failed to realise the 2 mounting points and also the raised pieces at the back of the mounting holes. I wrongly assumed it would be a similar set up to the accushot monopod but with faster and easier adjustments. Aside from this issue, it seems like a good piece of kit.

Also is it just a case of threading off the rear sling swivel on the Blaser R8 pro or is this not designed to be threaded off?

It looks like M-lok or something similar and so fits into a specific mounting system that isn't on the rifle.

Why did you get your missus to hold it for the photos though?? 😂😂😂

Extra thing to carry tho. I think that rear monopod is great idea.
Fit a QD swivel to the bag and attach it to the rear stud.
But to your issue in hand, counter sink the stock and bolt through or screw (choose best method for your stock), you could of course grind off the raised bits but will likely void any warranty

If you use a carabiner to attach the rear bag to your sling then you have it when you need it and there is nothing extra to lose….. providing you remember your rifle!
Monopods are too slow to deploy and are dependent on firm ground. I suspect that they are more useful in a military setting where observation through the scope at a static target is needed for a prolonged period of time

Will probably grind off the raised bits, would rather butcher the monopod than the stock, especially as I'm not sure if it will be a long term addition to the rifle.

Rather than take a saw or whatever to it. Make yourself a packer to fill the gap. If you use a release agent (clear polish for example) on the stock you can drill holes for the screws that fix to the stock and then use card and masking tape to make a box round it between stock and mono pod. Fill that with something like Sikaflex and you have a gap free fit.

Can you contact the company that make it and find out what the attachment system is? If it is M-lok or similar than buy a cheap piece of rail to fix to the stock?

Or as said above make a packer. Some black waste pipe or water pipe heated and shaped with holes cut out would blend in well enough with the stock.

Isn't that going to be a bit long for a rear monopod? Surely you'll need a tall bipod to get the rifle somewhere near level.

I've yet to see an mlok adapter, that fitting is mlok or keymod, either one require a recess for the fixing screws to fit into. With your stock I doubt there is an adapter made but the idea above of using a filler to create a perfect fit is probably your best option.

Accu-Shot may do a sling swivel adapter, worth checking out
