Decent boar last night

This form af hunting one would wish more fellow hunters would have a chance at. Been shooting all sort of prey for 40 yrs + but nothing beats boar night huning, especially summer nights.
I absolutely agree with you. Boar hunting at night is something special.
Possibly similar to hunting wolves, bears at night. Possibly, because we don't have wolves or bears here.

Thanks all. So 1 out of group of 5 was shot late evening but see now on camera there were more boar active early in this morning.

You are very lucky! The wild boars are not afraid, they walk around during the day. In Moldova they feed only at night, immediately after dark.

Wild boars feed at night, but in this period, when the nights are short and getting even shorter, they will come out earlier, especially the females with their young.😉

Probable. But lately I have met wild boars at 11:00 p.m. A bit late for May.
At the moment the females with cubs are not right to disturb. Are small.

Boar have to adapt to no real darkness here and now ..

When the Cubs get older, are they then referred to as Scouts ?
Kindest regards, Olaf

Good evening guys!
I want to give some advice - do not use Hornady V-max/Z-max bullets against wild boars. They are poorly effective, the penetration power is low. In the dark I confused Z-max with SST - the result was very unpleasant. Use only SP, SST and everything will be fine.
With respect.

Good advice and thank you for sharing. What happened?

What happened?
Midnight. A herds of wild boars. I had two magazines - one with Hornady Z-max, the other with SST. By mistake, at night I chose Z-max. The wild boar fell immediately, but after one-two minute it got up and managed to hide in the forest.
When the Z-max hits the target, it explodes and fragments immediately. The small fragments have no penetrating power.
The animal ran away. Regrettable.

Not an enviable task looking for a wounded boar at night!
That’s why I head shoot them drops them instantly and I’m not one to take chances with any boar. You know they’re tough.
Shot this one Friday night - just over 91kg.
150g copper .308 I use and they hit hard.

You're right. It's not easy to look for a wounded boar at night. Better not, it's very dangerous.
I fixed my mistake. Now I only use SST. They are very effective. I also have copper Barney, but I've never used them.

what was the outing like ,was thinking of doing the same
It’s always good. I do get some in the day but nights are most successful. Nothing quite like being out after boar under a full moon as well, seems to bring out the confidence in them .

Only at night. Under the moon? No! Wild boars avoid light. For this reason, it is preferable to choose moonless or cloudy nights. Wild boars have good eyesight, but not perfect. When they are in a group, they are noisy. Then they lose their attention. Then you can approach them at 100-150 m. They have fairly good hearing, but not like deer or rabbits. Their strength is their sense of smell. That's why you approach them against the wind.
At night I followed a group of wild boars 2.5 km on foot. Tiring, careful, but enjoyable.

Might be your experience but that’s not mine. I find they move a lot under the moonlight. Shot a fair few during the daytime as well. Sense of smell is great, eyesight is crap I’ve got very close downwind of them. Like deer, when in a group - one gets spooked and they all get spooked. All about knowing your quarry in your area mind.
