Reactive RIfle target suggestions - Non Metal

Hi,

Has anyone got any suggestions or know of any types of reactive rifle targets, that are not Hardox Steel.

I’m looking for something that can be put out at distance (400,500,600 Yards etc) and that you can visually tell you have hit,

Ideally looking for non Steel plate options to reduce ricochet risk, so something perforating where the bullet passes through and into the backstop.

Obviously the military have the reactive fig 11’s that drop when hit, however I wasn’t sure if such a thing or similar exists in the civilian market.

Maybe there is nothing on the market, but thought I would see if anyone knew of anything.

Use a piece of Ally sheet 2-3mm thick as the round will pass through it.

Throom targets are worth a look. They're pass through targets so no chance of a ricochet.
Not sure what they're rated up to calibre wise?
The ones I use are only ever shot at with a .22lr

Don't know if you get an audible noise when hitting a throom but maybe a combination of a throom target and a Hornady indicator light would help tell if you hit or miss at the longer ranges.

Is there a "ting" or any other noise made when you hit a throom?

The ones I use are either swinging targets so you can see it wobbling about all over the place or they're knockdown targets.

Knockdowns are ok at a short distance but I wouldn't want to be walking 200+yards every time to reset it

I have a throom Target, I considered this, thought about a potential “dualling tree” style set up, that way when you shoot the target the round will pass through and hopefully the target would swing round to the other side of the tree, that way you could easily tell the target was hit.

I just wasn’t sure if the target would move much or if the bullet would just pencil straight through. I ideally want the target to move somehow so you can tell it is hit at longer distances.

My thoughts exactly, I don’t want to be walking down range after every shot to re-set ahah

I set up a tree with 6 swinging targets but they didn't work with .22. it pushed it back but didn't swing it right round if that makes sense?

Ahh okay I see, I would ideally be using it for centerfire so I’m not sure how it would work, presumably it would want to swing it a bit more but who knows.

That is 1.5mm Ally with it's own back-stop, however you could just have a plate on a frame.

That looks interesting thanks, does the bullet just pencil through? Or does the ally plate swing around a good bit? If you’ve ever used the ally plate without the backstop frame? Thanks

What calibre?
I'll shoot one during the week at 100 yards and let you know what happens!

What I use with the boys is a balloon tied short on a cane. I funnel in some flour and then inflate. Very satisfying reaction at air rifle ranges. Quality thick balloons are less likely to pop and can be taped so they don’t flutter.
