Hi all what powde would you recommend for a Hornady 55gr vmax in 223, I’ve just finished my old tub so I am after some recommendations for a new powder please. Thanks

read your reloading manual ,make a note of the advised powder for your chosen bullet then your search begins and you may have to buy what you can get ! n130/n133/n135 etc but availability will be an issue.

As above I would first check out your local supplies and ask what they have and what they are expecting to continue to get in reliably and base a decision on that.

Plenty of powders will work and all produce the results you want but nothing is more frustrating than working up a load that you like only to find you can't source that powder again.

i had great results with Viht N133 and reloader 10, not that you will be able to get any of that anymore,

Yes also to N133. It's ideal for 52-55gn bullets in 223. N135 also works, but is a better match to the next heavier bullet weight category (60-70gn). There are others from Reload Swiss, Ramshot and Lovex, but Vihtavuori is the most commonly stocked marque in most places with decent availability.

N133 or RS 40 will work well with the bullet weights you suggest.

Both are on the easier side to get in the UK. Personally I’m using RS40. I find it clean burning & get decent speeds with it
