Morning all one for the 17 rem reloaders currently working some loads up with n135 and rl15 for 25 grain Bergers and vmax

What primers have you found work well currently using cci 400 and am getting primer cratering very early on do these little beasts require a magnum primer like the rem 7.5 or cci 450 also has anybody had good results with the above powders currently at 23.8 with rl 15 (books says 24 max ) and am around the 3600 speed if I could get around 3800 I’d be happy I’ve. I signs of pressure with the rl15 yet

I found this online
Notes: Rifle: Remington 700 .17 Remington, 24-inch sporter barrel.

Groups the product of 5-shot groups at 100 yards.

Primers were either CCI BR-4 or Federal 205M.

Another online
rem 7 1/2 primers are the best because of the thicker cup. See below.

Yep. I have only used small magnum primers, Rem 7 1/2 or cci 450. I use Berger 25 grain varmint HP and 22 grains of N135 which gives me 3900 fps from my 20" barrel. I have also used re 15 and was around the 3700 fps range from memory.

I was using Fed205M and N135 with 25gn Bergers in my Tikka .17Rem (now gone but another one pending my one for one coming through🤞) And getting c3900fps with it.

Interestingly, I was getting cratered primers with my .20Prac and N133 and ended up using 450’s as the best.. and the wet barrel problem as mentioned on the Reloder22 thread … the switch to 10x resolved all that and the cratering has gone but as 10x has disappeared, I’ll be looking at Ramshot X-Terminator for both the .17 and the .20 when my stock of 133 and 10x runs out.

I’m using Ramshot Wildboar with BR4 primers. Rem 7 1/2 primers are also good for the 17 Rem - both have slightly thicker cups than normal primers.
I’ve found no temperature sensitivity with the Ramshot powder and accuracy is excellent with Vmax and Bergers
Cheers

Interesting….

Wild boar isn’t listed listed on the Krank chart

but I did find it Here…https://www.lhs-germany.de/fileadmi...ve_Abbrenngeschwindigkeit_Export_Mai_2022.pdf
Which shows it as being a bit slower than X-Terminator and Ramshot recommended it for heavier .223 bullets and Match 308’s. But then, this chart doesn’t show 10x which I’m interested in for my .20 Practicalwhereas the Krank chart shows it right next to it. 🫤

Interesting, I have a variation in for 17 rem so all good information. Have you considered the 17gn bullets? There are some very cheap options

Not that I know much about 17rem but all I will say is that I've found n135 to be very slow in my 222. To the point that it only gets going with compressed charge weights.

In the 17 is the case 100% full at listed max?

Found them erratic in mine, however they were the cheap henry krank bullet, when your variation comes through drop me a message and I'll send you some to try
They were for the .17hmr ordered from USA by Eley who then dropped offering the round then Krank picked them up, I bought 500 as they were so cheap. I have not yet tried them on a target

The Wild Boar data is from the Hodgson website. See below.
I gave up with N135 - great velocity (4,400 f/s with 20gr Nosler) but too temperature sensitive in the 17 Rem where just 0.1 or 0.2IMG_3211.webp2gr can tip it into pressure signs.

A friend used blc2 years ago in his 17R and noting that CFE 223 reminds me of blc2 I looked it up at Hogdens data centre and it does seem to give good velocity with max doses at 103%. It's pretty available around me so maybe an option??
