Taped seams

I reckon the Nikwax wash in stuff may be helping taped seams to delaminate, anyone else have any ideas?
I don't know whether it's anything to do with the Nikwax, but you can get a roll of seam tape and repair the items. If I remember correctly, you heat it a short section at a time using a hairdryer, and rub it into place using the back of a spoon. Something like that, anyway. I retaped the seams on my bivvy bag, and it has lasted well.

Just re-done my 25-year old Shark Country camo jacket. De-lamination was nothing to do with the washing/proofing regime, but rather age related breakdown of materials comprising the tape and bonding agent.

I used an iron as use of a heated spoon will drive you round the bend as it cools too rapidly. To do a decent job you need to be patient and pay attention to removing all the 'dead' tape material and cutting of each new length. Under arm areas are a pig as its so difficult to keep the iron away from the fabric you dont want to melt! I chose a bright colour to make positioning a little easier:

Good luck.

Just get an old barbour. They can be rewaxed any number of times and they slow down the ingress of rain. And 50 years they still will. They will still be damp, uncomfortable, smell of old dogs, but a suspect there are SD members that for a number of generations have been conceived on a barbour jacket.

However modern coats are so much more comfortable, besides all the old barbours are all stolen by younger generations.

I can't think of any other item of clothing that people would continue to wear in polite company long after it had ceased to look anything like a garment, and more closely resembled (in both looks and aroma) the skin of a long-dead giant toad.
