243 108gr Hornady ELDM

Good morning.

I’m looking at putting a deer/target round together, I pretty new to reloading so any advice would be great.
I was wondering if anyone has any real world data min and max loads for a Hornady 108gr ELDM. If there’s a better recommendation I’m open to listening/reading.

I’m using a .243 Winchester with a 24 inch barrel 1 in 8 twist on a tikka t3x. The barrel is a Bartlin match varmint.

The 103 eldx or 90 grn cx will be better, as both are designed for hunting.
Personally if my .243 had that barrel ( and I wish it did! )
I’d go for the 95grn Barnes LRX.

108 ELDMs are an excellent hunting bullet. I can’t give you load data for a 243 but I shoot them in my 6CM in a very mild load at 2750FPM and they are very effective, particularly head and neck shooting. I’ve shot fallow and sika out to 350m with the same load so effective at all normal stalking distances.

Fair play, I’ve never used that particular bullet, but I’ve seen plenty of match bullets at close range fail to penetrate. I’d prefer to use a hunting bullet with slightly lower match performance than a match bullet with poorer hunting performance. I went down the match bullet route my 6.5 a while ago and had failed expansions on foxes, and fail to penetrate on fallow.

The 108 Is a particularly good bullet, I’m not saying that about all match bullets across the board but the 108 is tried and tested and is about as good as you can wish for

Had fantastic results with 108s in 243 with a 1/8 twist.

It's not easy to find data Hornady has some but it's mainly reach non compliant powder.
