Stock/ action compatibility Rem 700 Bagara

Hi,

Can someone give me a definitive answer which stocks and action is compatible please?

While many actions are Mauser clones there’s so many variants that you have to be very specific about the model to match the stock. Similarly there’s a lot of Remington stocks available and many new ones actions are Remington 700 clones, do any have close enough tolerances to be an unquestionable fit? i.e Bagara? Howa? Others? Which models?

Many thanks

This is not a simple question. Bergara and Weatherby 307 are seen as Remington clone action - as are a lot of the custom actions from the likes of Zermatt Arms, Gunwerks..... They should fit into chassis OK without the need for fettling.
I can't think of any other clone type actions for the likes of Sako, Tikka, Howa etc..... but it's late.... (early)..... Tikka are different across the 59x and 69x ranges to say the T3 - and as for Sako...... that's a minefield across the models over the years.

If it's a REM 700 action clone depending on long or short then anything for the REM 700 long or short should fit the action length it matches they are not interchangeable.

Sorry maybe the question is not clear, I want to know which ones, if any, are interchangeable without having both rifles and stocks in my hands.

I understand that long and shot actions are different lengths.

Well as far as I'm aware if you have a Rem 700 long action clone then a stock for a Rem 700 long action and it's clones should fit though bedding would be advised.
So just some: B&C, AI, McMillian, GRS and MDT to name a few.

I wouldn't know 100% but if the Bagara is made to the dimensions of Rem 700 action then yes.

for example a friend had a short action Rem 700 and fitted it into a stock made by another company.

There is more to it than just the action. Bergara have several different floor plate footprints. Very few real clones, most have differences in design. Tikka T3 is the simplest, no clones and only two floor plate options. 50% chance of getting it right… but another few options on the barrel channel.

Thought I'd answered this. Bergara will fit in a Remington stock/chassis of the same action length, as will all the other clones - rather the point of a clone......
Some clones are not identical in dimensions however, hence the question.

Have you personally fitted a Bagara in a Remington stock? Which others are identical clones?

Point taken, barrel channels can be quite different. If magazine and floor plates differ I would not class it as compatible.

I do not believe that is the definition of clone. I have done a fair few - Bergara to Remington and vice versa, plus Zermatt, Gunwerks. If it says Remington clone - it will fit Remington aftermarket.

My long action bergara wouldn't fit into a long action remington 700 grs stock. Grs certainly have option to buy for a bergara or remington which says a lot

Expected as much, I see a lot of adverts stating it is for both. Even rifles of the same generic “model” often won’t interchange stocks.

There are often differences around recoil lug thickness and shape, bolt release and ejection port dimensions, so generally they will fit, but may not be as good as one that has been fitted. If its been bedded, it will need modifying or re bedding.

I think people are confusing a "700 clone" action with a "700 clone" rifle (which includes the magazine/floorplate, specific trigger hanger and recoil lug).

A 700 clone action is just that; the action only is dimensionally the same as a 700 (meaning it will likely fit a 700 action footprint within a stock, but not necessarily the magazine/floorplate arrangement).

That being said, the short action clones tend to be more similar than the long action clones.

The devil is in the details....

I should add, short action Bergara's use a 700 footprint, so the action will fit a 700 stock. To be clear, 700 stocks can come in a variety of bottom metal options, so you need to understand what you intend to use. A floorplate, or a detachable magazine? With a detachable magazine, you need to understand what type (AI pattern? Or a Remington type pattern?). And even in the AI patterned rifles you'll need to understand what the stock is inletted for; Badger M5? Aftermarket Remington type pattern? Among others....

BLUF: Look at the bottom inlet as well as the action inlet before making a decision.
