Hi, I've just enrolled so introducing myself, i live in the wet and wind Northwest (Cumbria) and been into shooting & reloading since the early 80s (pistols originally) but now collect and shoot ex military caibre rifles, quite a few at the moment but dont think that will last with the away things are going.
I have recently started clay shooting again after a 35yr break, after i was given a Lanber shotgun (with seized in chokes) for helping somebody out, and have just bought a Beretta 303 to keep it company. Having to start learning again especially since i never had a shotgun with removable chokes before so hopefully i can learn something on the forum that will improve my scores.

Welcome to the site. What clay shooting do you shoot? If a sporting layout, more of open' chokes would be fine, if a Trap lay out then most like a tighter patterned choke, also accepted is to shoot bottom barrel first.

BC.

Yes started sporting again after many years, luckily theres a shooting ground nearby so i dont have to travel too far, although prices have gone up considerably since i last did any clay shooting, i am retired now so i have to watch the pennies.
The shotguns a late model Lanber and had both chokes seized in the barrel but i got them out without too much heartache, only two chokes came with the gun, 1/4 (lower) and 3/4 (upper) so i could do with a 1/2 choke to replace the 3/4 one.
At the moment i am trying out different cartridge makes and loads to see what suits me best, Eley Blues 28 gram seem to be ok but will try a few more brands.
I came across a very nice Beretta A303 and always heard good reports from people and in magazines about them so took the plunge and bought it to hopefully save my shoulder a bit as i get older, it has all the original chokes and tool so i dont need to buy anything else, it seems to like 32gram loads but will try it with 28grm loads next time i go, when this weather improves.
Just have to start hitting the clays a bit more often now.
Cheers

Hi Peter, yes been doing it for over 15 years now so cant see the point in changing it, hope your keeping well and keeping those M41Bs clean and oiled up.

No point changing those early starts now Ian, I’m fine thanks for asking how are things with you, have you been shooting your m/41B ?
Rifles clean and ready for the next visit, just picked up two more scopes, an Ajack and an AGA m/42.

No the last time was when you were at the range, was hoping to go over to Catterick but since the MOD banded 6.5 calibres i don't really have anywhere to shoot it now, typical of my luck.
Been setting up my Springfield A4 clone hopefully its all ready now, thats until the MOD ban that calibre, and sorting my reloads for the MAS36.
You won the Lottery again buying more scopes.

Well that’s a shame you haven’t shot it since then, just your luck the MOD banned 6.5 before you had a chance to blow the cobwebs out of it.

No the lottery didn’t finance my new (old) scopes our lass did, she said because I’m such a wonderful caring husband she would buy them for me as a gift, or was it that she didn’t want that Rachel Reeves person to get her sticky hands on the cash, thinking about it now l think it’s probably the latter !

Good to know your Springfield is all ready for action now, good luck with your MAS36.

Your a lucky man, all i get for my wife is how many guns do you need, you can only shoot one at once.
I hope she never goes into politics because i would end up with only one, how would i pick which one i wanted to keep!!

Me too…….l hope your good lady never goes into politics for your sake but for me your only choice would have to be your m/41B but I’m a little biased.

The other day our lass said “isn’t it about time you were buying another rifle” well l didn’t disagree with that statement, hey ho l never said no.

Peter, I would take that as a green light to start looking around, do you have anything in mind!!

If l found my world was in desperate need of another rifle l would definitely go for another Swedish, I’ve accumulated a fair amount of accessories and knowledge about them and I find them so very interesting to the point that I sold the other rifles in my collection but kept the Swedes.

I did spot one a while ago but I didn’t follow up on it, I’m not that desperate at the moment.

It will be another Swede then, you need something to put all these scopes on!!

Yes it will, but I’m very particular in what I want, it would have to be completely matching and particularly interesting as well as being in good condition.

The two latest scopes I bought are in my avatar for the time being.

Yep ive seen them, suppose you got them from Sweden.

Sorry for not responding earlier but I was watching the 6 Nations rugby Ireland v Wales, great match.

To answer your question yes direct from Sweden, l know a couple of Swedish collectors who know their stuff, if l want to know anything l contact them.

Quite recently just out of the blue one of them contacted me offering a multiple of m/41 and m/41B items including the two original scopes and scope mounts l went for the scopes as they are very difficult to find the other items l already had.

The same collector had sold, a few weeks previously, an m/44 scope (very rare) and my other collector friend informed me about it but unfortunately for me my bids didn’t win me the auction shame really but that one ended up in the states, one day maybe I’ll get one.

You never know whats going to crop up, just keep looking, i suppose they go for top prices in Sweden, the spares you see on the web are not cheap especially with the shipping and any taxes that need paying on top.
You have to be a real anorak to purchase some of the parts that come alone, (being retired means less cash to splash around) but i think we all know about that one.
