A tale of EV woe.

EVs are to save the car industry, not the planet, modern ICE vehicles are just too good and are not being replaced often enough

Can you park it 100yds away from your home?

No. Why on earth would I want to do that.

Not sure I would agree with that people change their cars all the time particular here in the UK I think the issue is the fact most cars are leased these days not bought. EVs definitely won’t save the car industry hell they will put 90% of independent garage out of business.

I have an electric vauxhall van through my work. Range wise the van says i can get 167 miles. On cold day with lights and heaters on I am lucky if I get 70. Battery pack was renewed at 16k, due to constant faults. Currently on 23k and same faults are reappearing. Same issue with whole fleet. Vans are being replaced with diesel ones now....
Remote charging is a fortune.

Hmmmm youve never owned a current jlr vehicle, nissan (snappinh chassis) bmw self destructing engines, vag dsg issues etc etc all vehicles have problems

I do wonder how we ever moved on from catapults 🤷🏼‍♂️

I just wish governments would stop dictating our lives and deciding what sort of transport options we have.

We use up the Earth’s resources and have cumulative heavy carbon footprints mainly because there’s too many of us scurrying about on this third rock from the sun. If the powers at be want to sort things, maybe a shag tax might do it. How to enforce it would be a problem though. We’d have to have a Government Nookie Dept. I’d say there’d be a few suitably experienced candidates for minister.

The good news - they ain’t gonna be available for everyone, there’s not enough to go round:

I have watched this it very much highlights the practical and real world flaws in the race to EV as the “go to” vehicles of the future

I watched a video where upon a heater unit was replaced on a vauxhall van. It was over £2k!
The mechanic was disgruntled how he had had to buy an EV tool kit costing many thousands and his first job, the heater unit on said van he didn't even need the expensive tool kit 🤦.
Wish I could find it....

And regardless of the sales hype and shills. There not outselling ice vehicles, thousands have been registered by dealerships in the last 3 months.

Look at auto trader, search for 2024/25 model year eves pre owned and look at the huge lists and mega discounts. We are being lied to.

Tell me how all the folks that live in the older parts of British towns and city, dwellers in high rise buildings are going to be able to charge their EV’s, when it’s difficult enough to find a parking space within 10 meters from your front door.

The gubernment might do what the japanese authorities do, no parking space = no permission is given to own a vehicle.

Not if the media has been restricted....

True, however, for all we know, they might be suppressing news regarding petrol and Diesel car fires as well - my impression is that I've seen far more Diesel and petrol cars on fire at the roadside over the years than I see reported in the news. Who can you believe?

Just to say that the car market has always been sensitive to the various forms of taxation, something we should consider before reaching conclusions regarding what type of vehicles motorists like or don't like.

The factor most influencing the type of cars we see on our roads is BIK tax for new car business buyers. This is the main reason why the UK is inundated with 2010-2018 Diesel cars. This is also the main reason why we have so many EVs on our roads in recent years. Whether buyers actually like Diesel cars, or EVs, becomes a moot point.

Then you have VED, and things like CAZ/ULEZ/LEZ, which also affect consumers' choice. Etc.

More exploding ev nonsense.

It’s just not a real thing there’s over a million on uk roads if they actually blew up regularly would be all over the media especially whilst charging.
FWIW fire is my 'thing' professionally, the jury is out but there is a lot of concern over the safety of EV vehicles. Whilst i don't want to sound like a doom monger, the concerns appear to be growing, and if i work on the construction of a new build development current UK guidance is for ev charging stations not to be in/under the building.

Make of that what you will.

I find it difficult to believe that changing your car (whatever it runs on) every 2 or 3 years can be a green solution to earths problems. However, it seems somewhat ironic that many business users do and buy/lease a new EV each time.

I have in the past looked at the BE point with regards to carbon/energy used, and ;last time i looked the average mileage driver varied from a few tens thousands of miles, to a hundred thousands miles or so compared with an comparable ICE vehicle.
