Ordering From MDT Direct

Has anyone here ordered a stock/chassis forest from MDT? The Canadian dollar to pound rate means it’s quite attractive.

I’m thinking of fitting a field stock to my foxing rifle as now it has a DNT Zulus I’d appreciate the adjustable comb.

I assume there will be shipping and import duty to add, but don’t know if there is any more to it. Looking online the import duty rate would be 2.5%, is this paid upfront or when it’s in the uk?

You pay on entry to the uk prior to the item being released

I understand that MDT are looking (long term) into building a European warehouse to distribute from. That may cause the order direct from CAD to close

You usually get a notification from the parcel hub to advise “you owe,,,,”

Pay that online using the reference and the item arrives

Sometimes if it’s ups you may have to provide copy of fac because they don’t know what the feck they’re doing ,,,

i had a big old spend up at their black friday sale a few years ago , i had a nightmare actually getting my stuff !

i can't remember the carrier but they were awful , truly awful ! lost my stuff a few times then couldn't locate it , refused me collecting it just an utter nightmare all compounded by MDT not really being able to or wanting to help , i think MDT's issue was that they were unable to get any sense out of the carrier either !

anyway it eventually turned up but frankly i'd rather pay a bit extra for stuff thats already here !

Bulk of your payment in UK will be VAT. Probly on the shipping also (that's the way it's usually done, don't know UK specifics).

Import duty depends on, under which customs tariff class the person who does the paperwork, will declare the stock.

I doubt ordering direct will be worth your trouble. Most field stock models are £320 at Brownells, and the $370 CAD that MDT quotes for same models is £200. MDT also quotes $172 CAD / £92 for shipping to UK, it's not clear whether this includes import duties and tax also (like for EU). Keep in mind that buying in UK you have consumer protection, right to cancel order etc.

When I was looking for a HNT-26 I eventually found that Brownells could supply cheaper from their EU warehouse rather than ordering from MDT direct. The shipping costs were horrendous!

First shot is what I paid, delivered. Just looked at C2 Precision and the same item is currently £1999.99. On MDT site it is $2483.17 CAD delivered which equates to £1335.65 BUT you will be stung 20% VAT plus a handling charge so about £1640 imported direct by my reckoning. There was a thread up here a while back by a guy that did the direct route.



Edit to say: I was talking with my RFD at the time and even with his contact/discount he couldn't beat the Brownells' price.

Edit again: Just seen in another post that due to the UK/Canadian trade deal we shouldn't now be stung with the VAT. More research required but if that's true, it would be a lot cheaper that those being offered by UK suppliers

I can recollect using the first order discount but sadly to not the value of the MDT chassis - bought too many things from Brownells over the years.

Not the best customer service from Brownells sadly. Just received notification of a cancelled order and refund, then after an email saying can’t supply due to an inventory error. No offer of an alternative colour etc.

ive ordered direct from mdt, tax, duty etc includeded in the price. not the speediest as it has to clear boarderforce there end and then the same again this end. but considerably cheaper then buying from a dealer over here. very simple process.

I tried ordering an MDT stock from Brownells before Christmas and it turned into a problem. Ordered from their website, stock in inventory and a good price; they took my money etc, but then began the wait. . .

They posted my stock from their European warehouse Germany, however German C&E had a look and had a complete hissy-fit about it and returned it to Brownells with a warning that they were breaching anti-terror legislation. All this took a couple of months to sort out, with pretty poor comms from Brownells I'm afraid. Eventually they refunded me.

Apparently MDT doesn't allow them to fulfil orders from their USA inventory, it has to come from their European warehouse in Germany. No idea why, something about their pricing structure.
