Tikka t3x stainless barrel rust issues

Starting to notice spots of rust on the stainless steel barrel of my tikka t3 I bought new last year, wondered if anyone else has had the same issue and if there’s any product I can use that will get rid of the rust completely?

If you can, check the inside of the barrel too...

WD-40 make a rust remover soak, or maybe vinegar and a gentle rub with scotchbrite (or if you go carefully, 0000 wire wool)? Once the rust is gone, even though it's 'stainless', I would always make sure 'if it's metal, wipe it with an oily rag'....

Thanks for the useful comments, I’ll give the scrotchbite pad and oil a go and see if that helps 👍🏻

White vinegar works. As per above, more importantly check the condition of the chamber. Unfortunately it seems modern stainless stains a bit more than less.

I have 2 Tikka T3X's. The action on one was prone to becoming tarnished and I had it cerakoted, which solved the problem. The other has been fine.

Depends on the quality.
All SS isn’t equal.

I work with a lot of stainless equipment for salt water service. Over the years it's very apparent the quality of stainless has deteriorated. Experience of Tikkas over the years has also shown that the materials they use have dwindled in quality. Still, my rifles are all Tikka actions, albeit Cerakoted cromoly actions as opposed to stainless.

So, are you saying that steel like, say 316 is of a lesser quality now than it was a few years ago?
Ken.

I guess going back to your post, not all things are equal, it would depend on how demanding you were in sourcing it ? I'm far from an expert, just my limited experience.

I had the same problem with one of my tikkas. The rust was only on one spot on the barrel and I cleaned it off but it would come back in the same place.
I had it cerakoted 2 years ago and had no problems since

Out of interest (although I've never had a rifle go rusty because I just like to keep them wiped over with an oily rag), how much would a cerakote job cost, would anyone reading this highly recommend places to get it done, and how much?.....

Had bolt, action, barrel and floor plate done. Mine was sent of via RFD to i think MWguns. All in was just iver £200. Hopefully no rust problems ever.
