I’ve had some stainless guns rust a little and I’ve used CLP with 0000 steel wool on the area. Then wipe it clean and go back over it with a cloth that has CLP on it to leave a light film on it.
My worst offender was a Ruger Hawkeye stainless I loaned out. It came back rusty and had hot chocolate or a powdered cappuccino spilled on the Nikon Monarch scope. I think someone put it away wet in the gun case and left it in there for 2 weeks. My loaner rifle is now a large frame AR in 308 and nobody has contacted me since word got out that’s what I was “loaning” out. Problem solved.
Out of interest (although I've never had a rifle go rusty because I just like to keep them wiped over with an oily rag), how much would a cerakote job cost, would anyone reading this highly recommend places to get it done, and how much?.....
We've been utilising the services of Matt at M.A.Rainback for all of our CERAKOTE work over the past couple of years. They deliver a prompt service with detailed technical feedback / suggestions and are as reliable as they come.
No matter how good these parts in Graphite Black may look in the photo, I can assure you the finish is absolutely perfect.
