My winny had a stainless barrel - it’s now cerakoted for this exact reason - too much hassle keeping it rust free when it’s wet and claggy!

Are you leaving a wet gun sling near it in the safe?
I’ve had some stainless guns rust a little and I’ve used CLP with 0000 steel wool on the area. Then wipe it clean and go back over it with a cloth that has CLP on it to leave a light film on it.
My worst offender was a Ruger Hawkeye stainless I loaned out. It came back rusty and had hot chocolate or a powdered cappuccino spilled on the Nikon Monarch scope. I think someone put it away wet in the gun case and left it in there for 2 weeks. My loaner rifle is now a large frame AR in 308 and nobody has contacted me since word got out that’s what I was “loaning” out. Problem solved.
