Powder for .223

If you're just starting to reload for the 223, as an alternative, have a look at Norma 200 powder. It produces very good results when compared to Vit, & RS, and it costs about £50.00/ 500g.

Do you think there will be many retailers with powder available like N133? My first time so not sure what to expect

Probably not, but how many do you need ? The first thing to do, is check what your local shops stock, because gone are the days where you could just turn up, and you had your choice of powder, primers, and bullets. Now, supply is limited, and you may have to adapt !

I popped into Norman Clark's, no LR primers, plenty of SR, various Vit, RS, and Norma 200. Bullet selection was also limited, at least for what I wanted.

I've simplified an example using Quickload, basing the info on "Pmax", the theoretical maximum pressure the .223 can run, to compare powders. I've used a 22" barrel, 53g Vmax, and an OAL of 2.260", which +/- has little effect on pressure.

This is purely to compare powders based at Pmax, will give circa 100% fill, circa 100% burn, and the best velocities. In reality, the pressure would be circa 10-15% lower, or where ever you can find an accuracy node.

I've marked the powders that meet the basic criteria, but if a powder isn't shown, doesn't mean it won't work, just that there are potentially better options.
