solo reds / bigger species into pick up

If it's just the odd one , 2 ratchet straps on the tie down hooks will be that extra pair of hands, Whilst your controlling your breathing. 😅
( 1 at a time, taking the weight, just in case anyone doesn't get the idea.
It does get you out of a pickle. )
And cheap as chips if not free.

Section of ladder. Put the one end on the tailgate, deer in tray onto the sloping ladder, pick up the bottom end by the ground with one hand, steady the tray with the other, slide the whole lot into the truck.

You get a big mechanical advantage by making the ladder as long as the bed of your truck. Easy and you can get a bit of old ladder for nothing out of a skip.

Try it before you go spending a fortune on winches and all the rest, you'll be surprised how easy it is. We use this method for lowland reds and one of us can get the carcass in on his own.

…or carry a ‘hi-jack’ and let it do the lifting of the ladder, by means of a solid bit of board with a dedicated notch into which the tooth of the lifting jack can fit; handy thing to have for extractions of the other type too!

having a boot door that opens sideways (like a defender/disco) is incredibly useful as you can hoist said deer up on pulleys and then reverse the car up to it and push it in.

Only if you've someone there to let down the pulleys in controlled fashion whilst 2nd person pushes it in

That is the ultimate example of a basic no nonsense set up Darkwood. Everyone should take note and replicate it.
Most of the guys that do so called "Deer Management " just don't understand the need for valuable storage space on a pick up truck bed.
My only complaint about your set up is that you don't share more pictures of it in use. It would make excellent refreshing content compared with some of the elaborate set ups you see that get posted on here.:thumb:

This set up cost £200 total , a second hand FC winch for £100 and a metal frame bracket and it’s brilliant , I gave my cousin a spare winch I had and he bolted a bit of wood along the rear of the tub and pulls big stags in with it so his set up cost him bugger all apart from wiring up the winch from the battery to the handset which he done himself . I couldn’t be bothered using pulleys because I had to many to get into the pickup so the electric winch suited me .

Good job there's no truck top on the load bed or those antler would of ripped the fecking thing off.
Cracking beast and quality picture. :thumb:

morning folks
im 99.9% Roe ...but now may have chance of occasional red .....

without fully kitting out rear of pick up for reds ... (amount ill get wont warrant it cost wise, may change in future but not at moment )

how are you guys loading your carcass into rear of your pick ups ?

I've seen a flat almost scaffold board system where 2x long piece near length of bed with 2x smaller pieces making a rectangle with gap in middle body sit in without falling thru.. but requires 2x guys one either side to lift front onto tailgate edge then both move to rear and lift to horizontal and push in .

but thinking of simple ideas for solo lifting into truck

cheers
Paul
I currently man handle them in mate.

A decent sized tub to get them into first and then just grunt them up onto the tailgate.

Not great for the back if you don't know how to lift a decent weight.

Failing that get the beast onto a mound and reverse the pickup so that its almost a slide in job.

I have plans to get something made as per @Tim.243 design . hopefully by the man himself

😉I bought a top for it 2 years ago and haven’t fitted it as being able to jump into the tub and get a bit more height for the foxes is ideal . 👌

That's a good point. Can shoot off of the roof of the pickup then 👍
Not that my fox shooting was to good this week 🙄missed 2 with the first shot but thankfully they came towards me and plugged them at 30m , turned out thermal needed zeroed 🤷‍♂️.. rocking now 😁

We've all been there mate. Start doubting yourself and if you've gone blind 🤣
