Stop feeding pheasants and the rats will likely go away. One place i stalk has more rats running around the feeders in the hedgerows than pheasants.
So by feeding the pheasants, the population of rodents has sky rocketed and is killing nesting bird eggs, etc. crazy

I’m not so sure anymore, I think we try to convince ourselves of this to justify our own end goals sometimes. Although I’m not claiming to be right. I’ve also seen a lot of deer crossing roads (RTA risk) to get to feeders

Neighbour reported today seeing a dozen wild pheasant chick's on ground I've been relentless on fox and crow wise.

Funnily enough SD spotted our first wild brood this week - loads of others about mind

Yes its the Merlin app - its free - it does drop the odd error tbh but is very good - Me and Benbhoy are always swapping lists

Having said that we have shot lead over circa 200 acres for over 40 years - and maybe 4/5000 cartridges a year including clays etc

We are doomed - doomed i tell ya !

Stuff is so early up here - many species now onto second broods - mandarin have bred already - so have tufted - historically i would say these were later breeders
The woodcock were roding like hell in March - hardly a whisper off them now as i hope either sitting or with broods
