What’s you favourite dog name?

Saw french bulldog called Napoleon yesterday
Met a bloke a few years back in Melton Mowbray walking a ferret named Stewart. I mean, you have to stop these people and ask don’t you! Then a few months later while in Lymington saw a colossal fella walking a rabbit and ver enthusiastically encouraged “tufty” to cross the road…. If only Stewart was there….

Dogs we've had from being a kid to couple of weeks ago 😢

Dingo (staffy)
Smudge (staffy)
Sands (JRT x patt)
Hoops (patterdale)
Finn McCool (Irish staffy 🤭)
George Best (JRT)
Archie (Lakeland x border)
Lola (staffy x whippet)

Defo one syllable is the way, far better “come here Fenn, rather than Jesus Christ come here Fenton…”, and nothing that could be misheard as a command. I quite like Sid, being a child of the 70s, but that would be a complete nightmare for training and command.
I had a ferret a hob that would pretty much walk to heel called Sid also in the late 70s into the 80s.

Ohh if we can do ferrets too!!

Brumas (albino hob, absolute monster!)
Hobo (polecat Jill, sweet natured)
Hazel (polecat Jill, hated people)
Arawn (polecat hob, almost all black.)

Wish the rabbit number locally justified having them again.

English Bull Terrier, Daisy, then a miniature BT Piglet, have stuck with the P,s and have Puffin, Pongo and Pringle now....none of which feature in my internet banking password....

When I was a kid a hunting friend of my father had a real old warrior of a dog. Mainly bull terrier with a dash of bull mastiff, pictures of the original bull fighting dog reminds me of him. Both ears were ripped stumps,he literally was covered in scars from bushpig and warthog tussling. He would try grabbing buffalo by the nose and was tossed on more than one occasion.
Everyone that seen this old warrior always commented on his appearance and temperament, which was feisty to say the least. Then came the question " what's his name?"
Sandy Sanderson, his owner, would reply with a poker face " Peaches".
That truly was his name, the most mis named dog ever!

We had a white EBT called Patches now have a brindle called Toro

Got two Teckels called Luger and Mauser

Had a ferret called Finella after the witch in Chorlton and the Wheelies and another hob called Eric ( the Viking) cause he was feking massive

We took on a rehome lab last year called “Rua” which I recently discovered is Gaelic for “Red” - apparently nearly the same in Scotland.
Dunno why they called her that really…

I was always told to name your dog with a one syllable name as this makes recall sharper and easier for the dog to hear. Shouting Gem, Tip, Meg etc is much easier than trying to get Jeremiah's attention. I did take it a little personally though growing up when 2 of our neighbours called their sheep dogs Ben.

Having said that we got a rescue JRT once and had to alter it's name to Minnie. None of us felt it would be right to be walking round shouting for Moonie to come back.
