Stiffest sticks?

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a new set of quad sticks. My old bushes ones have done the job but are just quite flexy and I'm really after something that will be super stiff, that I can lean into.

I'd also like something with a narrow yoke at the back which a narrow butt will snug down into.

I'm not too worried about weight - any recommendations?

Many thanks 😄

I've got an old pair of the standard aluminium ones with the narrower front yoke. I haven't used the 5th leg so can't comment but I would think for general stalking applications (sub 150m) it is not required. They are very stable when used properly. If I was buying again I would probably look at the carbon ones because they weigh less and I assume aren't cold on the hands like metal is. Not sure if there is any difference in rigidity.

Viperflex with fifth leg. I have the aluminium but kind of wish I had carbon fibre. They are expensive but worth it when you get good with them. Try someone else’s if you can hold of them. Dry fire with a rifle aiming at something to appreciate the full stability. These have made more difference to my stalking, confidence and shot placement than anything else. Incredible.

I have these and can't fault them:

Mjoelner Hunting FENRIS II CARBON FIBRE Quad Sticks £260

stiff, tight and robust - wide front platform and a steep V for the butt end. I have only tried one other pair.....just as good but £200 more

Thanks - this is good to hear. It's the price that's put me off thus far!

I will have a look, thanks

Haven't handled the current generation, but I have a hunch that Jakele might be the stiffest.

But the thing is, they're "very German", i.e. the design is plain stupid but probably represents the designer's view on how things should be done. Main culprit is the front "fork", that tips to the side and lets your rifle fall. So in practice you need to keep your support hand on the rifle while it's set on the sticks.

Viperflex. I really have abused mine and they just keep going. Expensive but they are built to last. They also have a uk based service provider so if by chance you bend or snap them I’ve read several people saying they are fixed for free.

Many thanks for your input all - it sounds like many people are using the Viperflex and rate them highly. I'll try to borrow a set and have a go.

Any idea what the 'Elite +' refers to here?

Viper-Flex Styx Elite + Shooting Sticks

Personally I wouldn’t have a set of viperflex or blaser or any of the other branded quad sticks if they were given to me

They with whistle like hell in the wind and vastly overpriced!

Made my own for more years than I can remember and the kit I mentioned is the missing link that makes the B&Q specials every bit as good if not better than the branded rip offs

Look at everyone recommending the whistling sticks 🙈😂

4 B & Q garden canes and a @takbok stick kit is all you need £60 all in saving you a fortuneView attachment 423779
Mine don’t whistle now I covered them with the tubing they supply? With these sticks does it bother you that you can’t pan the rifle L and R like you can with the flat front rest on the viper flex sticks? Not sure the cost is that bad compared to the money some spend on rifle and scope.

Not at all I want to kill it not look at it!

Why the need to pan? If I open my sticks somethings going to happen.

I’ve shot multiples many many times and never needed to pan, the secret is to be In the right spot unseen and undetected then you don’t need to pan

As for cost what’s better £250 - £300 for a set of sticks or £50 sticks that don’t whistle?

I know what camp I’m in and the one being robbed isn’t the one 👍

Same a Lee, also often on a second deer (fallow reds) also a follow up shot they can run way out of the distance you can "pan" then you will have to spin on the sticks and take the shot!
Often out foxing one will come out behind you so it is a 180!
Personally I like the least amount of movement in a rifle, you go to the trouble of getting the thing set up V bag B-Pod then add 3" it can move in.
