A Brace of TeroTuf™ Handled Secare

First time using TeroTuf today, the below from their website (and remember it is their own website) 😂

CIP TeroTuf, originally designed as a wear material for industrial use, was introduced to the knife industry as a new option for handles. This material has quickly become a preferred alternative to many other utilitarian handle options. TeroTuf is made with 100% polyester resin and fabric with no fillers, is non-toxic, chemically resistant to most cleaning supplies, and does not swell in water. TeroTuf has been weather tested by Ochs Sherworx (after twenty-seven weeks in the sun CIP material showed no noticeable change).

I have had a couple of Secare blades ready for handles in the workshop for a while now so decided to get some of the TeroTuf gear in and give it a whirl, I went with the grey and olive green.

First indications are very good, it cuts and works nicely, very grippy (as seems to be part of it's charm) and a lot smoother and finely finished in hand than it looks, the finish not dissimilar to canvas Micarta actually, the handles/scales are finished down to around 320g in the photos.

Terotuf is a great handle material. Its like micarta, but quite a bit lighter because of the resins used. And the chemicals in the resin are a lot less dangerous than the resins used in micarta. I found it pretty easy to shape and sand too. The only downside I have found its that it is quite expensive compared to other synthetics.

Looks a nice handle material Stu.

Also I saw popped over to see Duncan Chandler the other day as lives a few miles from me. He was making a Kydex barrel cover for his ne FAC air rifle, that boy is the kydex king lol. He isn’t making knives anymore but is a butcher in our local Morrisons now.

Wow, that name is a blast from the past, how is he getting on, is he OK?

He is doing well Stu, Duncan always has a smile and I always have time for him. Although he gave up knife making out of sheer frustration which was sad to see. He still does the odd bit of Kydex but even with that I think it was as was the case with the knives, the time and effort just were not worth it. He is now into his shooting big time and so that is his passion now.

I reckon he will do the odd knife in the future, might have to badger him to make a few as he still has lots of blanks and his machines.
