6.5 creedmoor grouping

Depending on barrel profile you may also then end up chasing heat deflection so the groups you have are spot on. I mean deer at the ranges you want 2moa be fine so you are well within that!

Only thing is pick a load, make up 5 stick them over the chrono. While not a statistically large sample group, if they group then the SD isn’t a key performer. People sometimes try rabbit hole when they have something sufficient. And yes I am guilty of this! My 308 stalking rifle can group at 1/2-1/4 moa (1st shot is my zero, next three are always 1/2 inch high right as the barrel warms but groups well but I know this so adjust POA after 1st shot ) . but that was luck with the first load I tried. My PRS rifle took a lot more fettling to get a low SD and 1/4moa grouping which just isn’t needed for stalking.

Hi I’m relatively new to reloading and have just done some ladder testing for my 6.5. I have a 24” sako s20 and useing sierra game changer 130 grain. I’m useing Winchester staball 6.5 powder started from 40grn and ended on 44.5 grain I will attach pics could some1 please advise if one off my loads is ok for stalking as I don’t have a chronograph
Those are all essentially part of the same group - there is effectively no measurable variation in either group size or point of impact.

This means you have a good set up and can shoot consistently. There is absolutely no need to worry about which load is the most accurate - they all are.

So pick the one that gives you the terminal performance you want.

Not expert,by any means but you need good velocity with this bullet. I personally will focus and play with seating dept at 41.5gn. and should be good for sat 250 yards. Ideally you need 2800fps +. Hope #foxyboy will show up, think he used same bullet in sweede
As if by magic!
First thing is your groups are all minute of deer, a bit of fine tuning with your zero and relax….
Sierra 130TGKS are a great round- I seat mine very long but that is in the 6.5x55SE and drive them at c.2750 fps. Nothing has gone on, period!
By all means experiment with your loads but do be very alert to any pressure signs as you work up…..

PMax works really well for rough guides long as it has the powder you want. I have a Mac and can’t be arsed with a windows dual boot in order to run QL or GRT.
You’re like me, feral reloading, it gives you a lovely rule of thumb 👌

Quick load gives you too much BS to think about, just ran my Barnes load through and with the point of aim from my rifle with lead compared to copper it’s nearest dammit so hazard I guess the speed is about the same I’ll do me but it certainly a banker

not saying much about feral reloading however I was told this chap also reloads his 6.5 cm

I just go off the recommended from Viht app and double checking Pmax. It’s pretty good on velocities usually a few FPS out but not many. Am usually inside the Viht estimates by a long way bar one of my rifles but I know the pressure signs so keep an eye on it.

You dont, they expand well even at low velocity. Even at creedmoor speeds they're easily capable of full expansion out beyond 500 yards. They're designed as a long range bullet so they tend to be slightly softer

3 shot groups are fine to start with- they don’t necessarily tell you the perfect load, but they do show a load that’s no good- why waste ammo that shows a 1.5moa group after 3 shots.

My load development on my 6.5 is complete now and I’m very happy with the results. This is a 11 shot group at 100 yards. The first three were literally on top of each other. If I slowed down and let the barrel cool I’m sure it would be tighter IMG_9923.webp
