Wrong calibre printed on FAC. Semi custom build.

Hi,
So I had a semi custom built last year in 7mm-08. When I notified the police they rang me to say that the serial number shows as a 30-06. I told them it was a semi custom, who built it, and that it must have obviously been a 30-06 in its previous guise, but I purchased it as a 7mm-08. They said "ah ok, thought as much, all good, no problem" .

I sent in a variation recently to remove one slot and add 2 more differnt calibres. All granted and certificate arrived today.
However, when it states guns in my possession, it says moderator 7mm-08, but the corresponding rifle has been printed on my ticket as a Tikka 30-06! I've never asked for anything other than 7mm-08 or been granted a 30-06!

So, is it down to the rifle builder to get it changed to a 7mm-08? Is it down to the police to update it on their system so the serial number comes back as 7mm-08? Do I send it back to them and get it corrected because of I got pulled and checked, the rifle states 7mm-08 on the barrel but serial number says 30-06.
Or is this normal for a semi custom build to stay as its original chambering?

Depending on what I'm told here by those in the know, I will contact the firearms department tomorrow or the builder of the rifle accordingly.

Common sense tells me that the serial number should now state 7mm-08? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Many thanks 👍

You need to send your certificate back to the licensing department with a covering letter and get them to correct it. The rifle with that serial number is now 7-08. It is their mistake. Had a rifle re- barrelled from .22-250 to .243 last year and because I retained the same moderator it took them 3 goes to get my certificate right! Spell it out in simple language and phone them for belt and braces. In the end I amended my own certificate and sent it back to them to re- print. The admin staff don’t understand calibre changes. Good luck.

Thanks Tarvie,
I will get that sorted tomorrow then and hand deliver it so I can get to speak to them as well as a cover letter 👍

GMP made 4 mistakes on my FAC , non of them were my mistakes , including prating and Fac shotgun on a shotgun certificate rather than a section my FAC ticket , wonder what would happen if it was the other way round

They have the certificates in their possession long enough, you'd think they'd get it right! 🙄

Happens.
Just send it back with note.
Our force has a young clerk that doesn't understand all the funny numbers and what they mean. Sometimes a call has to be made to check which tray she has put the application in 🙄.

Had 2 shotguns on my certificate while a relative moved house, later when he renewed they added my guns to his certificate.

Mistakes happen, we are meant to sign our certificates on receipt but if they are wrong??

Had similar happen to me at next renewal after I had my 6.5x47 built.

Wasn't able to make the ‘office’ understand what had happened but fortunately FEO understood what had been done & got the record amended.

yeah been down this road, as I would imagine have most members of this forum. The minutia of our hobby is a mystery to the admin team.
At the last printing, after several years, I finally managed to get all my mods correctly listed, but that was only down to the attentions of a particularly thorough admin.
ive had my FEO sort this sort of thing over the phone and then WhatsApp him a picture of my Cert torn up and a new one was on the doormat the following day.

I once asked a specialist firearms lawyer about this, his view was the notifications at the time of transfer take precedence over the printed FAC.

it happens - nothing to worry about

I had a 308 rifle and 6.5-08 barrel so that I could make a 6.5 rifle and have a scrap 30 cal barrel.

A few messages back and forth and the 308 rifle went from a 'possessed' to a 'to purchase' slot and the 6.5 brl slot became a rifle with the correct serial number.

Then our BH county became BCH, not so sure it'll be as easy to sort now.:-|

Thanks all.

Appreciate mistakes happen, I was just more curious if the rifle builder should have done it before selling it, or if it's the police who change it.
I didn't sign it, obviously, and returned it to them with a cover letter, as well as explaining it face to face when I dropped it bacn to them.
It should be back to me this week.

As others just send it back for correction also and not telling you to suck eggs but have a look at the ammo and mod .

Thanks Paul 👍
Comment before yours #13 is an update to say that it's been returned and will be back with me next week, etc 👍😎

Glad that Police Scotland just does small bore and full bore moderator... And at least Edinburgh lot don't seem to be too bothered with knowing the brand or serial numbers either.

I’ve got authority to buy 6 or 7 different types of ammo on mine and only have .22lr and .25-06 I just stopped trying with them!

Well, I can't praise Gloucestershire Constabulary highly enough for the speed in which they rectified the 3 mistakes on the certificate, plus added a 22 Creedmoor for me as a 1 for 1 for a 25 Air rifle, as well as keeping the authority to aquire the 22-250.

When I took it back to them, with a cover letter, I asked to speak to them. Within a few minutes one of the staff were in reception with me. I went through the cert mistakes and that the cover letter also explains it incase there's a time delay before being able to deal with it.

He then asked me to take a seat and give him 5 minutes to have a look at it.
Within 5 to 10 minutes he was back in reception with me, with a newly printed and correct certificate, with the 1 for 1 variation also done along with the 22-250 still in place 👌😎
Has to be a work record turn around by any force!

All well that ends well.
