I had the pleasure of making this knife to a customers requirements recently, it was a very satisfying build as one of the first using my new laser engraver.
The knife is my Secare L model with a blank cut from Swedish Elmax powder steel heat treated and cryogenically soaked in order to achieve HRC 61-62. The grind is a full flat that was ground to .35mm before honing, so incredibly thin and razor sharp, literally shaper than a Gillette razor! It has a satin hand finish to 800 grit, which I can assure you is hard work to achieve with powder steels as they are designed not to wear, a few hours of meticulous hand sanding but worth it where the quality of the finish is concerned.
A fully stabilised burl wood handle was chosen along with orange G10 liners with black carbon fibre pins, once again these take time to fit correctly as the holes are drilled then carefully reamed in order the pins can be press fit with an arbour to ensure a perfect fit once epoxied. The handle was then shaped to slightly over sized as per the customers instructions. You will notice the customer has his own signature on the reverse side of the knife.
Finished in a super secure wet formed sheath, which means the sheath was made to the exact dimension of the knife and then wetted, leather then shrinks around the knife profile and becomes super secure, so much so that the knife 'clicks' back into the sheath.
