Ruger american rifle

I have shot one in 22 ARC. Accuracy was more than expected although I have to admit the action isn’t the smoothest. I would say it offers value for money.

I have a Ruger American Ranch Mk1 .300blk, the rifle itself is quite robust, the bolt while initially stiff is a good design and does smooth, thats the good points out of the way, accuracy is ok, the synthetic stock is so poor I now know what they use recycled plastic cutlery and straws for, and the magazine is a design and functionality crime, to me ruger seem to rush products onto the market and use customer returns and complaints as R&D, wait for a MK2 version if you want a nice(er) rifle

They are manufactured about an hour from my house. They have become very popular here. Everyone I know with one swears by it. There is nothing nice or pretty about it if that’s your thing but as a tool they perform their job well a reasonable price. To my mind it makes a good truck gun. What are you looking for and intend to do with it?

If it’s anything like the M77 it will be very very accurate, robust, indestructible and something you’ll never kill for as long ad you have a hole on your arse!
Unfortunately it’s nothing like the 77. I personally really like the 77 the differences are substantial. Although as has been said it will certainly do the job at a much cheaper price.

I have a bunch of them all in the Ranch model: 300bo, 7.62 Russian, 223, 6.5 CM, 308 and 300 WM. All are deadly accurate and work as they should.-Muir

In fact, i have three of the Russians

I have the 223 ranch mk1, very accurate with 50g and good enough for just over 400 yd shots on goats, bolt was rough, known as the zipper bolt due to the noise, solved with a bit of wet and dry, mags are just standard AR mags, don,t understand any problems, the stock is just a regular plastic stock, I fitted a cheek riser to mine , because of the scope fitted. Love the feel of the mk2 and the fluted barrel.

Yes the ranch uses AR mags but the standard American uses the rotary mags. I’d much prefer the AR mags but not sure if it’s possible to convert to use them?

Just thought about what I had written and was about to reply the rotary mag is average to say the least

I had one years ago in 308 win. Had feeding issues right from the start. Getting a new mag solved the issue. The funny part was the jams were caused by the new type mag with metal plate which was suppose to solve the feeding issues. Then I got a new mag but old type with plastic plate and it worked fine. Leaves a person wondering. The trigger was much too heavy for precision shooting. I liked it's light weight.
Sold it soon after. You can't compare it to a decent german / austrian rifle. There's simply no comparison.
I understand they are a truck gun and they have value at prices they are sold in the US. I was in the States about 10 years ago and saw them first hand for sale at 233 $... They are worth as much. But at prices they are sold here? They cost about 1000 € nowdays!?

Whats people's views on the above rifle?
Well built? Accurate?

Anyone used mk1 vs mk2? Thoughts, comparisons?

Really like the look of the mk2 predator.

I was looking for a MK2 Ranch Rifle for a knockabout I could carry in the tractor when I'm feeding in the winter. I got fed up waiting and waiting and them not coming in so I bought the standard, 16" vs 20" barrel is the difference, and I think the Predator is 22". I'm very happy with it.

The trigger is absolutely fine, not as crisp as my Tikkas perhaps but totally usable. The bolt is certainly sloppier feeling than the Tikkas but again it's fine and feeds perfectly. Mine is in .223 using AR mags.

Very accurate for a cheap rifle. Will put 5 shots in pretty well .5" or less at a 100 yards.

I haven't tried a MK1 but read about the "zipper" bolt, it doesn't seem to be a problem on the MK2. Also there were complaints about very flexible stocks, the stock is OK, it doesn't touch the barrel although if you try you can make it but not in normal use. For the price no real complaints!

MK1 ranch has a rotary POS mag, the MK2 has the AR ones, which would be the model to go for

Thanks, that's reassuring. You don’t think you'll need to aftermarket triggers? Have you adjusted the factory trigger? Is the 223 10 mag capacity in standard? Im looking at 204 ; standard model 10x capacity but the predatory is 3x
