Oh lovely ! How much do I wish I had a slot for this ?

It does, some shops will ask for a specified B/A or semi auto. If it says neither a 22 RF slot will buy this rifle.

If it says .22 lr then a variation will be required.

I asked a RFD today and he said he honestly didn’t know!
Completely a grey area and plod specific ?
I actually looked at my ticket and it’s .22 rifle and .22 ammunition,
But a few years ago I enquired to a guy called Wayne think he was the original NWCP guy and he told me I would need WMR specified on my certificate so back burnered it !

Good knows how long to get a variation with Kent at this time ?
3-6 months I’d guess!

If you have a slot for .22 it will probably say .22 rf. It certainly shouldn’t say .22 rifle as that covers centrefires.

WMR is a .22rimfire. It’s available to buy on a rimfire slot.

Cumbria police went through a stage where you asked for .22 rifle as well as .22 ammunition allowing you to buy pretty much what you wanted from .22 Short right up to 220 swift, with whatever mechanism - bolt action/straight pull/ lever action/semi-auto. Then all you did was tell them via letter within 7 days what you had bought and they’d enter it on your FAC record; if you did a variation for another .22 rifle when your FAC came back it then had that latest variation applied and the rifle that you had purchased previously entered correctly along with the relevant ammunition. Made it a great way to buy any .22 without tying you into one cartridge type. I believe that they did this as variations at that time were taking 6-9 months, since then they’ve actually managed to sort their variation process out and it’s about 2 weeks ATM.
Some forces actually do variation while you wait, we were at the Northern Shooting Show and North Yorkshire police were doing them at the show allowing you to buy the firearm you’d just seen at a vendors booth. Simples 😊

It's agrey area for west Yorkshire police who will not let you buy a 22 wmr on a 22 RF slot, you have to have a specific 22 wmr slot
