Rifled choks for shotguns

Yes, but the classification would probably be for practical or target slug and variation for a sec 1 shotgun, somebody else will probably know more, ive a 12g rifled sighted barrel on my sec 1.

Paradox chokes could be considered rifled, designed disperse shot at short distance.
The Paradox choke wasn’t designed to disperse shot at short distance.

It was designed to fire a solid bullet accurately but without disrupting (i.e. unduly spreading) the shot pattern. In this it largely succeeded.

Whilst the 1885 Fosbery Paradox patent was in force companies such as Greener tried fully rifled barrels with various forms of recessed chokes (all of which was outside of the scope of the patent) but it was found that whilst the results with ball were good the shot patterns were ‘spoiled’ (i.e. spread).

I’ve got the ok to have chokes fitted to a .410g smooth bore pistol which is a section 5 firearm conditioned on a sec 1 cert, apparently fitting them has to be done by a sec 5 gunsmith .

Rifled chokes are not permitted in target shotgun rules or anything else that imparts spin on the slug . ( i only know this as i came across it just now ... who knew 😂)

Rifled chokes are sometimes misunderstood. They aren't just for "slug" but also were once popular for short range rabbits (lapin) and woodcock (becasse) in France. However under UK Firearms Act if fixed as in made like that such as a Holland's Paradox or a Manufrance as below the gun in will be s1 (or even s5 if applicable where the gun is pump action or self-loading). I nearly did once buy a Manufrance that was rifled in BOTH barrels that was advertised by Sorrel Brothers. But in the end didn't. I think also that for Skeet they also are in serious competition not permitted under the rules regardless of s1 or s2 classification or not.
