It times like this i really need the sage words of the late Jimmy M.

Looking to upgrade my Hik Habroks HE25L's

I have been considering the Hik HQ35 4k'sbut a new kid on the block has arrived in tbe form of the Pixfra Draco D635-4K, which are about £800 cheaper.

However they have 35mm lenses as opposed to 50mm - what are the pro's and con's please

Anything will be an upgrade from the HE25L's frankly.

The HQ35L 4K have twice the FOV and 3 times the number of pixels than the 25's, which is something you will 100% notice. HQ35 is also 35mm lens BTW not 50. For the HQ50 you get the same sensor as the HQ35's, but more base mag so the FOV drops to 15m from 22m (HE25 is 11m FOV @100M).

Pixfra Draco isn't out yet and there isn't even reviews from the usual paid reviewers so the jury is still out on them. In theory though the spec is the same as the HQ35's, but in a slightly smaller package and a less well known brand. Maybe they dont pay for reviews which keeps the price down :-).

Not a guru, but I have owned the reviewed both the HE25 and HQ35L (first gen) and HQ35L 4K. More of a practical use review than a facts and figures technical breakdown that Jimmy used to be so good at.

Agree wholeheartedly about Jimmy M!

As separately discussed with @slider, I don’t really like the Hik 4k camera so only use my 25’s for last light, preferring my trusty Leica binos in the day. I’ve also taken my Alpex off this season and have gone over to an excellent thermal clip on (Thunder 3).

I suspect 5k and then 8k cameras are not far away so I’m loathed to spend big money now, but I do fancy an improvement on the 25’s very basic thermal so I’ve taken a flier and gone for the Pixfra Draco D635-4k. I was very impressed with the Infiray FH35R V2 at its price for a back-up thermal to my Telos XP50 LRF. Whilst the camera on the Draco is probably on a par with the Habrok which I despise, it does have a 35mm 640x512 15mk thermal at what frankly appears to be too good a price. Frankly, most of the Chinese stuff is very similar and a bit like Temu offering you the same product just not with the big brand name, I think it’s worth a punt. We'll see - hope I’m right 🤞but if I'm not, its not thousands like some of the higher spec Habroks/Pulsars I'll be out of pocket.
