Planning on purchasing a s/h Pulsar Axion XM30 and a new Hikmicro Alpex A50 Lrf. Is this a good entry combination for NV work, shooting out to 150m, or would I benefit from a higher quality thermal spotter ? Would be wanting to spot fox sized creatures at 400m or so, but not necesserily positively ID them at that range. Many Thanks

I have both and I’d be careful in buying the XM30 if it’s more than about £300, as you can get do much better for not much more. That said, you’ll spot heat sources further out than you can shoot but you have to learn how to interpret the images and you need good Bino’s to identify your quarry. I still use mine but I’m looking to upgrade as it’s very limited compared with what’s available and coming to be available for c.£500 and up, new as well as used. You also need to carry a spare battery if you want more than 4 hours use in the field.

Yes I also had same combo and have upgraded as funds allowed. You will have great fun identifying your animal on thermal then getting it found on your NV sight. The physical size of the XM30 and what you can spot with it will get you hooked. Good luck👍

That’ll do the job.
I use a Xm30s and c50. Does the job.
Is there now better kit, yep, do I feel a need to upgrade? Not yet
I’m not one for upgrading for the sake of it. I will when either packs up or if tech makes a massive jump forward

Just be sure, you are not paying too much for XM30S.

It uses old Pulsar 60mK NETD, 320x240 sensor, f1.2 30mm lenses and APS3 battery which will last maybe 3 hours.
I don't know what are prices in UK, but here you can get Axion XQ30 pro for around 1000€ and it is much better device.
Alpex 4K LRF is great device, but don’t forget, that you will need some kind of IR illuminator.

I had Alpex on test last year and it worked perfectly with original HIKMICRO 850nm IR.

Cheers
