Looking for a second hand steel proofed, ejector, 28 inch ish barrel, side by side.
Needs to be in good/clean condition, but equally looking for a value for money gun, certainly nothing over £1k. Maybe something like a yildiz wildfowler elegant.
Anything out there? Let me know
Thanks

When you say steel proofed , are you looking for a gun proofed for high performance loads?

This 100%. I have just had my AYA Yeoman Ejector "bored for steel shot" which involved opening the chokes, fine boring the barrels (but staying in proof) and the forcing cones altered. I did not have it sent to proof to pay £XXX just to get a fleur de lys mark as I will only use standard steel in it.

I hope that the OP finds what is being looked for but perhaps a bit further detail may help? 70mm chambers or 76mm chambers? Standard steel capable or expressly proved for high performance steel? Anyway I wish him well in his search and Good Luck!

Standard steel capable would be fine - but would rather buy a gun suitable rather than faff with opening up chokes etc.
But more ideally high performance steel proofed.

I just bought a aya #3 non ejector 3" 1/4&1/2 and have shot steel 2&3/4" loads.
Some were 32g steel and frankly cruel and some 35g that felt like 3" loads and slightly less cruel.
I won't be buying any more...

Not to take the post too far off thread - i have joined another little shoot this year and have been using lead on it along with the other guns - our shoot has continued to use steel
Having shot a good number of both i would challenge anyone to tell the difference if they did not know what they were using - indeed again for many of the birds shot over the 2 shoots i believe steel has been killing more effectively - pattern over penetration ?

pattern over penetration
I should of added mine were #4 as per the conventional wisdom of using larger pellets.

Years of shooting muzzleloaders has taught my that multi strikes wins every time over a possible single hit from a larger pellets or two.
Irrespective of any numerical energy value the requirement of any shotgun pellet is to incapacitate the bird via wings, legs or internal organs. A higher numerical energy value does not guarantee that. Only with multiple strikes do we have hope.

That said, I ned to test some #5 steel before seasons end and to hell with the environmental effects of plastic pollution!

Fair enough Chris - do you shoot a lot ?
I said to the lads the other day i cant tell the difference - if anything i prefer steel -
I wonder if they were all loaded in unbranded unstamped cases you would or whether some of its is phycological ?
Be interesting to try that really

Yes. That makes sense. To open a choke...each choke...is likely to cost £70 plus. So that's an extra cost of £140 of the gun isn't already open choked enough. At least however opening chokes does not require the gun to be sent to proof.
