Quickload and none toxic rounds

First post of 2026, so happy new year to all reading!

I’ve been considering purchasing QuickLoad recently after using GRT (with much gratitude), mostly because GRT is no longer maintained (RIP) and was wondering how much data QuickLoad has on copper/non-toxic heads.

I had a little look to see if the Hornady GMX 90gr were on there but can’t see them listed in QuickLoads latest update.

Would it really be worth shelling out if it’s just going to give me similar data on lead rounds?

There are lots of non lead bullets listed. GMX, CX and ECX are present on my copy as you can see. If you want to use any others let me know and I’ll check.

I'm no authority on it but I think I read that GMX bullets have been or will be discontinued. I'd check it out first.

The Q.L. Bullet database includes many non-lead bullets with the British made Yew Tree & Virtus bullets in the list as well as many others including Hornady, as Selous mentions.

The database is regularly updated. Unfortunately that won’t be happening with GRT.

The fact that Q.L. is current & supported would mean it’s worthwhile buying over GRT for anyone wanting to use such software.

I use both but as a basic guide as to likely suitability of components & starting points but I view them as somewhat dubious oracles past that point.

With Q.L. it’s tempting not to buy every update especially if they don’t add any new bullets of interest, but some updates contain revised powder modelling & when installed you can get warnings that saved loads using a certain powder may need reassessment. This powder modelling updating is both a comfort but also a warning that any output from Q.L. should be given a sanity check.

Thanks for all the replies 👍🏻
I’ve not settled on any one brand/type of non-toxic yet, so knowing that there are plenty of options in there might even help me decide which brand to go for.
I guess for £130 it’s worth the investment! Just a shame they only offer the CD version. It’s time to dig out the old XP laptop 😂

as far as I remember many bullets makers have on their sites a downloadable file in Ql format. is up to you grab it and place in the relative Ql folder on your's pc as to update bullet's database.

Or you could find a stand alone CD/DVD drive that plugs into any computer using a USB cable - I have one that came with a very small very slim Toshiba laptop. They are available from Dell, ASUS, etc as well as the Toshiba one I have. Found it very useful now that laptops don’t come with internal DVD drives, mine writes as well as reads.

If anyone has the file for Sako bullets then I’d love a copy or link to where I can get it please 👍 I’ve measured the 308 bullet & created a custom bullet file & was planning to do the same for the 6.5 version but if Sako have the data that’d be great.

Replaced by the CX range of bullets, the GMX had a reputation for being a little hard, never used them so wouldn’t know.
I tried them and they were a complete disaster in my rifle. They flew all over the place, usually keyholing. Completely unusable, and it wasn't a problem with barrel twist.
