Police delay

Not the same police force but over the border in Suffolk. Just received my FAC back from getting a simple 1 for 1 variation, it took 2 months! Before Covid these were taking less than a week.

From what i have recently been led to believe, Beds/Herts and Cambs have significantly improved on the time it takes to grant and renew. I hope this is the case as we have had years and years of neglect.

This is the combined Beds./Cambs./Herts Licensing Department (BCH) at Monks Wood near Huntingdon.
Alleged to be an absolute disgrace . . . read the HMIC investigation report.:(

I like the way it refers to "The collaboration" as an entity that is getting it so badly wrong, instead of stating that it is the responsibility of the Chief Constables of the three Constabularies.

After all, each of the three is getting a decent salary package.

Not from what a mate is currently experiencing! His 8 week extension ran out at the beginning of December and he's had to dodge his guns, still no news.....

What astounds me is that it has taken so many years of neglect before they were inspected and a report done, when every one involved, stake holders and officers realised that it got worse with the amalgamation but nothing was done ,,,,,until now

I found in the last two years lodging a complaint with the police rep at the stalking show helped move things in the right direction. This was the only way of contact for a while as they wouldn’t answer thee phone and reluctant on email. He should really push a complaint through on email.

A mate had to have his guns put in storage, I contacted my FEO, made arrangements to relocate my mates safes and guns to my house for the duration, when ready they were returned at no cost to my mate and it was business as usual, everything done with the agreement of the FEO, but I suppose if you don’t know someone willing to help then it’d have to be an RFD.

I have several friends with waits for grants in excess of 2 years at the moment with Beds/Cambs/Herts, and still ongoing. So unfortunately the situation has got worse rather than better.

That would work if they read emails. The HMICFRS report for Beds/Cambs/Herts licensing came out yesterday. Here's a relevant quote from it:

"We identified 2,190 unanswered emails awaiting the collaboration’s attention. The risk that might be contained within these emails was unknown. It had no plan to deal with this backlog and stay on top of email demand."

Yay - I have to submit my renewal in May! Perhaps they will have cleared the backlog of 2000 unread emails by then!

It is a total shambles, but the title of the article is wrong. It should say incompetent police force’s firearms licensing team is not fit for purpose and is breaching home office regulations, not that they risk public safety, as that suggests that the moment our licenses run out then we suddenly become dangerous.
License holders tend to be the most law abiding citizens in the country, because any slight whiff of law breaking and we lose our guns.
We are not the problem, but again are being painted out to be, and that pi$$es me off.

True but in those 2000+ emails it's possible there are some people reporting concerns about certificate holders, which if any are valid, could put the public at risk. Would be interested to know if they're a recent or historic 2000+ emails though.

Would those concerns not be raised directly to the police tho, as opposed to firearms licensing? If I was concerned about a gun owner then I would call 101 and report it. They would investigate and, if concerned, would speak directly to the FLD.

I've raised concerns about someone directly with the FEO before- would usually prefer to go to a Firearms Dept rather than general police.

Who had the keys for the safe?

If I submit everything in time and they fail to renew my certificate, the police will be paying for my storage as it will be around £350 per month.

He kept the keys, how will you get the police to pay storage then?
The cost of storage to him is the reason I stored the guns or him.

I have deerstalking/management responsibilities that need to be met. If I’m gives to lodge my rifles with an RFD then I’ll not be able to fulfil my quotas.

It’s not JUST about the expense of having to put rifles into storage, FLD non performance could in theory lead me into a deal of difficulty regarding my deerstalking……
