I trap fur in the winter, targeting coyotes, wolverines, wolves, lynx and the occasional fox. Its been a bit of a tough winter so far with a 3 week stretch of -40C to -47C over Christmas and then it warmed up to the mid -30's and promptly snowed over 2 feet (around 75cm came down). I disabled my gear just before the -40's arrived because nothing moves in those temps, including me. Opened back up once the temp creeped back up . Lynx was from the first check after I re-set. A balmy -29C... before any wind chill.

the second pic is from a couple of weeks later when the weather turned again, except now into spring time temps of 0C . Biggest cat so far this season

The old ways are still alive then in Canada.
Almost everything is gone like that in the UK.
It would be tough for me with the cold.
I hope the temp rises a little for you :tiphat:

Nothing I'm seeing is overly appealing other than the need for 30-years of reverse time travel to permit matching the Op's endeavors!

Well done and stay safe.

Hi

Thank you for sharing the trapping photos, not so the environmental conditions............hell noooo!

May I ask if ye have a cabin/lodge in the vicinity of your trapline of do you s-mobile in a good way?
Seeing your photos has reminded me to read Bob Gilsviks book on trapping again - not possible this side :(

There's a reason I'm in SE Asia in January lol. I spent a lot of years out in the minus 40s in a lot of different parts of Canada , including the high Arctic. You can learn to deal with it , but it isn't forgiving . Take it for granted , and it will kill you . The coldest I was subjected to was -54 C air temp , no wind . That'll do it .

I have to ask , why North Star ? There can't be more than 100 people there , and that's being generous . I drove by it on the way to Manning a number of times , but never stopped . At least you weren't in High Level lol .

i was offered a job in manning , and the first house i could find was in north star , the isolation didnt bother me one bit...... I dont mind my own company
