Fencing, of the boundary demarcation type.

Hi.
I am trying to find out about Durafence.
Has anyone erected any?
Also as it only requires a 6" augered hole I am thinking about the Makita cordless 18 volt post hole digger. I am already on the 18 volt system.
This is to replace existing close board fence atop a 4ft high bank.

Thanks.

Thanks muddy.
I think Durafence might still be a bit uncommon as I only found it by accident.

Hi Bryan , the auger should be ok depending on the ground , I tend to use a clam shovel and a good bar . You should have a hole big enough to take 1.5 or 2 bags of post creat , this depends on how high the fence is . I also erect as I am going as there’s not much room for error in between the posts .

Wot is durafence?

I googled it and just came up some timber horsey fence stuff.

When we used to put uo demarc fencing it was simply 2 line wires or even 2x poly rope on 1 pipeline we fenced.
And purely to mark the site boundry.
Which is not wot ur taljing about

Marketed by Birkdale. Folded steel H section post. Galv or galv with powder coat colouring(extra £11.00)
Synthetic gravel boards and panels.
Can accommodate traditional rail or panels.
The posts are 80% lighter than slotted concrete and only require hole of 6"(150mm).

Is that the sort of laminate fencing.

My folks got some done in the garden looks pretty tidy.
Was expensive thou.
Not sure if the exact same brand as got it throu a local builders merchant.

A mate erected it, for some reason they sent posts the same hieght as fence with a bracket u drill 4 raw bolts into the pads u poured.
So id make sure u got long posts prob want 24-30" in ground depending on wind and soil

They sent pretty chunky concrete bolts
BUT the only 2 tiny screws that attach the feet to the fence post.
Litterally screws u'd expect to hold a plug facing on.
Thankfully only a 3ft fence, fairky exposed but stood up to decent winds so far.
But was not very impressed with it, they complained and said they would.
guarantee/warranty it.
Im sure sone stuff was missing also and took
ages to come.

I must admit and i know cordless power tools are far better now, but id be surprised if a battery auger would have ebough grunt to dig much unless really good digging.
Ive seen mates using the old petrol 1s before they had a clutch, hit a stone abd either break ur wrist or sebd u flying.

Also depending how the old fence was erected.
Do u know if the old posts were concreted in?
At 4ft high could be 50/50 wether posts concreted.
Just ur old posts and new posts might be in the same holes depending how u start the fence.

I dunno how long ur fence is but ur never too long digging posts in when only 2ft deep.
But a lit deoends on the soil conditions and amount of wind and how solid fence is.

The old fence is 8x15ft bays of 6ft6" high 4x4" softwood. Some have rotted now after 37 years and the closeboard panels were second hand then. I can erect the new fence and increase total length to 19x 6ft bays 6ft 6" high.
I will cut old posts at ground level after new fence completed.
I will probably now hand dig the new smaller holes. After all I managed to dig the larger original ones although I was younger then.

4” soft wood with 8” strainers at the corners or periodically down a line.

Two strands of straining wire or 3 of barbed wire for stock

Bloody expensive though now

If I can I use neighbour’s fence post basher on back of tractor

Ours need replacement but I got a job lot of claymores from Putin

Much cheaper 😎

I jest of course

Thats a strange size 15ft bays.
Must of worked thou, done well to get 37yrs out off timber, wont get that nowadays anyway.
Id imagine that will be a pain as every now and again ur new posts will be on top of ur old posts.

Before u cut all ur old posts id double check with a tape where ur new posts are going.
Sometimes easier to get the post and concrete out with post still attached even just to shoogle the post a bit.

If u do need the concrete out a cheapy big sds drill/breaker can be a god send.

Have u had a price yet??
Id imagine u could be pretty dear at 6ft.
Id be sitting down for it anyway
I definately wouldnt like the post/feet set up my folks have at 6ft high.
Im old school so like a chunky 4" post, those modern posts just dont seem a lot of material holding them.
But they obviously have tested them.

Id price some 8ft 6 or 9ft Uc 4 timber posts.
Meant to be a 25+ yr warranty with them.
Gives u a bit more flexability with post siteing, can shorten a bay a few " or even feet easily if makes it easier digging.

Durapost 2700mm galv £21 +vat
brown pressure treated 6x6 panel £30 + vat
Cap for post £2.50 +vat
gravel board £2.94 +vat

15 panels 16 posts @6ft bays = £1,032.30 inc vat

Ur not bad prices at that.
Hardly buy a timber post 4x4 9ft timber post for 20 quid

My folks went for that laminate fencing so will never rot.
It was eye wateringly exoensive.

It does look tidy thou and zero maintance

I don't know WTF I was talking about. The old fence is 10ft bays:rolleyes: 6ft feather edge on three arris rails.
I really do worry myself about myself sometimes.
