.270 blows roe to bits, you want a 6.5x55 swede. very little meat damage on roe and they use them for elk in Scandinavia.

Yes the . 280 rem does seem to tick many boxes.
But I am always open to suggestions of the ideal single calibre.
Personally I feel 7 mm flavour is pretty good.
