So what is it

It was the farmers daughter who was doing her rounds and filmed it and was unarmed unfortunately. She knows what a moggie and fox looks like like so would be surprised if she would stop to film either of them. I had hoped that Ifor Williams had introduced some muntjac into the area but think I’ll be disappointed.

Where about a in Ayrshire are you buddy?
I miss going there and just south a bit.

Never seen a racoon dog in real life, but it does look like one. I know they're listed as an invasive species so there must be some out there somewhere...?
Very problematic in some parts of Europe.

Wouldn't be surprised if they're being released deliberately by rewilding loonies 🙄

Not fluffy enough to be a racoon dog..Looks like a coati.... where was this filmed? There were known to be escapees spotted in Cumbria a while ago.

I don't know if you've heard of a Racoon Dog, they are not related to racoons although look surprisingly similar and they're from Asia.
I had heard of raccoon dogs but had never seen one. Had to google them. They seem to have a much more horizontal stance. My first response was based on post #4 mentioning that it might be a raccoon.

Indeed, I had only heard of them in the last year or so, apparently closesly related to foxes but remarkably similar in facial appearance to racoons.

@monarman I’ve just googled the coati and it’s a strong possibility, size colour and tail, Im trying to get the landowners permission to have a wander on the ground with the rifle thermal and GWP, only one way to confirm.

If you do spot it, It really ought to be reported to the non native species inspectorate, it isn't covered by your fac to shoot it as its not considered lawful quarry. They have systems in place to deal with things like this.

Looked like a fox to me, possibly mangy with thin tail.
Definetly not racoon or racoon dog, too high legged imo. Video quality pants.
