Pellet Grills?

Hello!!

I’ve been playing around with my old Bradley Smoker over the past few weeks and forget how much fun they are. I’m thinking of expanding my capabilities to smoke hotter than 225F and therefore much more outdoor cookery.

I’m looking at a Weber Searwood as a ‘do everything else’ addition which will ultimately replace my charcoal bbq (takes too much time so I rarely use it)

If anyone has any experiences of this, alternatives or pellet grills in generally in the UK it would be great to hear.

Suggestions on vendors very welcome 🙏

🙏👍 Thank you, the Bradley flavor is awesome but in this cold weather struggling to get above 210F, even then best case hits 280F so not always great

Check out be masterbuilt gravity xt series
Same idea electronic set and forget grill / smoker but with charcoal

I’ve never had a pellet grill but I have spent numerous hours tending to my offset.
It can be hard work but the end result is always delicious.

Funnily enough I looked at these today as well as searwood, interesting idea but still with the mess and slow start of charcoal so not quite what I’m looking for , but thanks for idea

I've got traeger and there is a little trick to it if you want to sear in it, or cook something on higher temps (pizza), first in a current weather equip yourself with insulation blanket to cover the grill, second - for searing remove flame deflector plate, you will get much higher temps but not spread so evenly so keep that in mind.

Interesting on the flame deflector plate removal - ive wondered about removing this for stronger, more direct heat when doing steaks, etc

Great thank you! I have unfortunately now fallen down the Searwood rabbit hole with all of the accessories that they do… BUT the other option I had in mind was Traegar Pro 22 which is a good chunk of cash less and this would solve the lack of sear

3kg Pork Butt sitting in Meatchurch Gospel overnight and going in the Bradley tomorrow!

I’ve got one, no mess at all and just as quick to get going as a pellet grill. Mine is fully up to temp in 5 mins. We did a side by side cook with my mates traeger in New Year’s Eve and they behaved similarly, but mine made the wings and ribs a bit more tasty.

Yeah you can get charcoal going in 10mins with a chimney starter but i believe the xt gravity grill is lite and forget ....
I think charcoal still gives better flavour personally
Il love my kamado but I do like look amd reports of charcoal gravity grills

That’s great to have a side by side, thank you! I’ve discovered one of my friends has one of these, I’ll try to check it out

I have had most types of bbq as it’s my side hustle. Pellet grills such as the Traeger are great, easy to use, but the sear is always an issue. Plus the pellets don’t give a true bbq flavour. I swapped to the Masterbuilt gravity series and didn’t look back. Charcoal is far superior in flavour and you can sear properly! Pellets are flavoured, but with the Masterbuilt you can add actual wood chunks to the fire box.

My Kamado is still my go too though unless feeding 10+

Have a look at my Instagram / FB page for inspiration.

I’m always happy to help, just drop me a message!

Thank you! I’m starting to lean towards the gravity, the Weber Searwood sounds good as it can hit 600F BUT having seen one the build quality is a long way short of master built

Honestly the Webers are great but for me the Masterbuilt has it on price and quality. No affiliation but my friends all bought them after seeing mine. Where are you based? Happy for you to pop over and check out the range I have at HQ from kamado to MB to a full on Braai!
