Add ons.

I'm constantly lamenting the loss of a scope . Nothing beats a scope for daytime use.
My Zulus is fantastic at night and not to bad in the day but never as good as glass.
My pard ds on the hmr is mediocre but ok.
Again I miss glass for daytime. Having to switch on and off, carry cells. Focus every shot. Bright sun and pixelation blah blah.

I'm constantly tempted to get a good add on.
A pard 007sp 4k maybe.
I had a 2k version but had it on a scope that would not come below 6x so it was difficult to acquire a target sometimes due to lack of fov from the add ons high base mag of 2x.

With hind sight I should of got a different scope.

Anyway, one doesn't hear much about add ons any more let alone the 007sp range.
My sytong 66 is getting on now but still delivers at night.

I know one has to compromise shooting position of the head some but off sticks it's not so bad.

Has anyone else considered going back to a glass/ add on combination? Or is it just me?

The fox in this video was taken with a rear add on.

I am in the process of moving back to glass. I have a good ATN digital on my 243 that I’ve used exclusively for the last year or so. Thought I’d try a pard with a cheap scope, turns out I really like the Edgar bros optimate (Japanese vintage) and have enjoyed using it more than the ATN.

Happens I have a bifrost stock on that rifle which means extending the stock a little when the pard goes on is possible so it works well.

That said I haven’t yet decided which is going to be the long term option.

I love my Vulpine add on. I did recently get the 4k DNT scope and it has been a revelation in terms of shooting deer. I have shot 5 in the last week or so and only one of them would have been shootable with the scope I use on my main stalking rifle. In that regard, it has paid for itself already.

I have used it in the daytime a bit on mid range pests out to 300yds or so and it is decent at that but the clarity or enjoyment is not in the same ballpark as using a proper traditional optic. And the digital scope is pretty crap at night. Usable but nowhere near the quality of the image resolved by the Vulpine.

It is basically that last 30mins of shootable light for deer where the DNT earns its crust.

So for me for rabbits on the HMR, it still wears a traditional scope and then the add on for night bunnies. My .222rem will always continue to have a proper day optic on it and then the add on is used if I am out on foxes. The .243 with the DNT 4k is basically the do whatever rifle now but mostly it is the "I want/need to shoot a deer at all costs rifle" and the 6.5 is now I suppose a day time recreational deer rifle when having to shoot something is not necessarily needed.

It will always be far more enjoyable to aim through a proper scope.

Timely thread for me. I've just picked up a Pard 007a for use on my HMR when TVP sort the variation.

It's 6 years since I had one of these and been through about 10 other NV scopes/solutions since then. Still got two others - but fancied going 'old skool' and trying an add on again and leaving a day time optic in situ.

I need to track down one of those eagle vision collar attachments though..... bloody hate electricians tape and shims...... still looking forward to getting out with it soon.

Hello, There is no doubt that Night Vision Add Ons have become very popular with people shooting and still wanting to keep the day scope on, I used an early Pard 007 for many years on a Hawke SF Scope, This took over my Hawke L/R day scope , There are good alternatives to the Pard if you look at the many videos and reports but Pard seem to hold the leading supplier for many people wanting a quality Add On

Not NV, but I've reverted from digital (Alpex 4k LRF) back to glass but with a front thermal clip-on (HIK Thunder 3 TQ50CL) for FL/LL use that's ticking all of my boxes. Lots of threads on here about clip-on units.
A front thermal crossed my mind I take it the image quality is still good through them? What scope?

Going off topic slightly - but the zulus 4k you mean mate? Which IR you using? I've been toying with getting one but it'd be 100% night time use
Yep DNT Zulus 4k tubed thing matey. The one that got released recently.

I am still using the first generation Solaris SRX, so that might not be the most suitable. I did read somewhere (maybe) that it might work better with a powerful LED torch rather than laser. No idea but it is just a compromised image compared to what I get through either a Delta or the March scope and the Vulpine Add on. I think add ons do prefer/need lots of Laser IR but to be honest, I am not really all that up on modern NV. I have just used add ons and lasers for years and it has always worked well

I didn't get the new DNT 4k scope for night work. I got it to shoot deer in the last hour of legal light and it is really brilliant at that. I also think the day image is pretty good. I have shot small stuff like squirrels/magpies/crows etc in the daytime at 300yds with the ballistic calculator and LRF thing. That works really well.

If anyone has advice on how to better the image in proper pitch black, I would happily get whatever was needed and try it to report back. When the light really begins to fail around 5 mins before last legal light (so 55 minutes after sunset) if you put an IR on the scope then, you get a decent image but there is still some ambient light left, albeit not much. But in the proper pitch black on a dark night, even in perfect NV/thermal conditions, I just felt it was inferior to what I maybe expected. You can still use it out to 250yds or even more but the image is abit crappy and grainy. Maybe I am expecting too much but there is no way I would use it over the Vulpine/Scope combo for night time shooting. It is literally night and day difference. I know you are not local but if you were passing, you know you are welcome to pop in and we can drive up the farm and have a looksee thru it.

I can’t imagine replacing my glass with digital, but on one bit of ground a bit of night vision is useful.

I bought a second hand Pard 007 for £150. I have a Leupold that goes down to 3x.

The pard gives me an extra 30mins or so while it is legal but too dark for my scope in the morning and evening. It’s also accounted for fox in the evening after legal time for deer.

I have not shot beyond 100m with it but have watched deer at 250-300m and with the inbuilt IR the image was good enough that it wasn’t the limiting factor.

I find having the collar on my scope mildly annoying and may replace the screws with knurled ones so I can take it completely of in the day.
