I hope you have your fishery fenced, mate. And all the little wildlife ponds, they will eat everything, fish and birdlife. It doesn't need to be very high, you need a decent outturn on the top, floppy as well.

Get prepared now, 15 miles isn't that far. Once they turn up, they will stay until they have eaten all the easy pickings.
My favourite fishing pond of all time is the tiny estate lake at the bottom of the hall lawn on Merton Hall. When they arrived from Thompson Watering down the ditch, it only took a few years and the fishery was done. They started off with the Swan mussels and Eels, then the Tench, then the carp. Only a handful of fish are left in there now. It's closed for fishing, Robert won't let anyone fish it at all.

Otters put three local commercial fishing ponds out of business in the past couple of years.

A family of otters wiped out a carp pond in a village local to me.
They will travel miles overland. One of my foxing perms had one on her drive security camera. Miles from the nearest water.

A further thought on the rise of the otter (and mink).

When I was young, there were plenty of otters, and escaped and released mink were starting to be a problem. Rivers had plenty of fish in them, and commercial coarse fishing locations were pretty well unheard of. Otters, in particular, stuck mainly to the river systems.

Today, otter populations are on the rise, mink are still around, and rivers have fewer salmon, sea trout, and other fish than at any time in history, due to pollution and other factors. Little wonder that these predators target commercial and private ponds that offer an easy source of food.

Hello, There must be places in the UK where they have released Otters into the wild that will decimate the fish population on our rivers holding wild brown/ salmon and sea trout, Pollution is bad enough ??

You can only sort your problem out when you know exactly what your problem is. Put up a trail cam and then you will know for sure what is happening to your fish. Once you know who or what is the culprit you can then plan your response.

That would be very cool, id love to see that around here. Several nature reserves and the wash land for it to feed on

Better setting a trail cam up first rather than wasting people’s time if its an otter.
