Hello, I wonder how Pigeon shooting will fair this year ??, There has been a distinct lack of them in the Vale, Hardly any on the rape fields, Farmers will be out drilling soon ??

There seems less at the moment in places but it could all change quickly.
Last year I think I shot as many with a rifle than shotgun!
Decided to go over early while SWMBO is baking dog biccies

Proved to be another Dog, shot from the high spot just left of the caller & ext speaker on the wire

Nothing showing this end Gordon, been very sparse, mind you getting on any field to shoot atm is hard work due to the amount of rain we've had.
This one was recently caught napping though.

Hello, Well done Clive, Will have to see how it goes on the Drilleds field but as you very wet on the Farm i go to, A very nice family owned farm and my friend works on and i can pop over any time, Not so good of late, I went to Hospital but now waiting for results, I doubt will keep my SGC when it finishes in 2029, Have enough cartridges to last me in 12g but i bought a nice Lanber 20b so stocking up on those if i see any going for sale, cheersNothing showing this end Gordon, been very sparse, mind you getting on any field to shoot atm is hard work due to the amount of rain we've had.

Out and set up for 6am this morning - 3c and frosty but no wind.
Farmer had muck spread the field and said there was a few crows on it so in the interests of conservation I made an appearance.
I had just put out my decoys and returned to my hide when the 1st carrion came in .
They decoyed and called very well for a few hours.
2 jackdaws were coming in , one from the right and one from the left , I picked out the right one and they both fell to the shot ....pure luck
Anyway I finished on 57 birds which hopefully has helped the 20 lapwing and pair of grey partridge that were on the field.

I was on a CWD "cull day" between Woburn and Bedford on Sat with another 3 lads (2 who are friends of mine). Day was a little disappointing as there werent as many deer as I would have expected to see on whats advertised as a "cull day" but that is how it goes sometimes. 2 of the lads drew a blank (but both missed 1 deer each). I shot 2 and one of the other lads shot 4 (and 1 was a big gold medal so he was well chuffed).
I spent a bit of time in the high seat in the morning then went for a wander and shot the first buck about 120 yards off the sticks. 140 grain 6.5 creed rounds are maybe a bit much but dead is dead
Afternoon session and I spotted another buck in a wheat field but could only see his head as he was lying down. Had to wait for a dog walker to clear the field and then took the shot in the back of his head at 200 yards. I appreciate the arguments about head shooting but you are either a decent shot and know how and when to take head shots or you dont...and in which case dont take them. Also for me I know how badly hung I am so its not about any sort of willy waving contest...I would lose
Got home about 10.15 at night, deer in the chiller and up to the game dealer in the morning as I had better things to do then sort them out

Cheers mate. I think possibly my expectations were unreasonable ...but we didnt see many deer. The lads who missed only saw a couple each which isnt ideal..."you pay your money you take your chances" . I wont be going back thats for sureAt least you never blanked

The issue for me is that when you are paying for something there is a level of expectation...and the number of deer seen was very low for what is sold as a cull day. I ll leave it there but agree its much easier when its free and is based on managing deer rather then filling your wallet ...money f**ks up most things

Yep money fecks up everything. This is the problem when you are paying you expect results even though we all know nothing is certain with wild animals.
Good guides work hard to get results but others couldn't care less if you blank, cash still in their pocket and deer there for another client.
I did give the "guide" feedback so Im not being a coward or a keyboard warrior.I ll save my money for manscaping products and leather trousers to keep my Creedmoor owner status where it needs to be

Out over the weekend,have a farm where we’ve had to make a reduction in numbers so basically anything seen is to be taken
3 stags came out the forestry into a boggy area,I stalked into well under 100 yards where the 8 pointer was first to come out of a patch of gorse to be dropped with a high neck shot around 70 yards the 7 pointer ran a few yards and looked back to receive the same treatment
Thankfully the 3rd stag didn’t stop until he was out of sight
A soggy and wet extraction
