Heating oil

In the words of Johnny Cash...
"It's three feet high and rising "

Up like an Iranian rocket, down like feather...
Good job its at the end of winter and not the start.. thank the Lord for small mercies...

Looks like oil hit just shy of $120 a barrel today. However this evening, I hear, American markets reacting favourable to trump’s apparent statement that the war is near completed, and prices dropped by a good margin again.

Who knows maybe today’s oil increase is just a short term blip.

I hope so. I reckon that I can heat the house for 6-8 weeks in the oil I have and then do HW from immersion so, weather permitting, I can ride this out until October all being well.
Wet Solar panels (2m x 2m total) providing 300l of 60°C water at 57° North right now, assuming an hour and a bit of Sun during the mid morning to mid afternoon, which we have had for the past week for the most part. Every little helps.

I’m sure photovoltaic can offset the cost of switching the immersion on, but ‘wet solar’ gives you the hot water right away, and the glycol pump draws much less current than an immersion element in the case of having to resort to the generator should the electric fail ( like it will be doing in the coming years).

Q - what did the Scots used to light their homes with before candles?

A: Electricity…

Silly question, if crude oil has increased by 50% why has our heating oil doubled?

Below is a link as to how the USA heating oil market is reacting... it is already reversing and only max 50% increase which is now decreasing towrds 30%.

Good points.

The cynic in me says this is opportunistic suppliers, to some extent

on Saturday at an esso pump on a main road location Diesel was at 1.57 /l , When the competitors nearby was £1.37. Not seen diesel that much since end of the pandemic. Pure fear driven that high a price at the time. (Will have likely gone up again today a whack!)

Heating oil is kerosene and there is a major shortage of that specific fuel. The terminals don’t have any and what they do have is going to airports for planes

Cheapest Diesel near me £1:59*9 this morning,
Anybody else get cheesed off seeing that annoying * 9 sh#t?
Yep! I paid £1.52 last week. Apparently BP, in particular, are being hauled over the coals for profiteering. People were lynched for that during the war

Last night I noticed diesel was at least 20p a litre more expensive than petrol
Drove past 4 stations was as much as £1.59.9 litre.
Petrol prices app is very handy.

Ordered Fri 1000l, delivered yesterday invoice this morning 117.95 per litre so with VAT invoice total £1238.48.
Is what it is.

These arses are charging even more if you only want 500 litres, my tank is just about a thousand when full, & will not include ullage, a driver is obliged to leave that amount of room in case of expansion.

I only have a 1250l tank so a thousand litres is ideal, I also buy my machine diesel from same company but on a completely different account.
Might be worth investing in a 1500l tank the more you order the cheaper it is.
